To make a rather simple return, we only have one debut to talk about this week, it's OneRepublic's latest, Need Your Love. I briefly talked about this in my catch up post and said it was their best song in a minute, and I firmly stand by that. This is so good. The beat is on point and Ryan Tedder sounds really good here, plus, it's in Bb major, but what really does this for me is the lyrics. This song seems to be about love from a significant other being more important to someone hat anything else, such as a lot of money and alcoholic beverages, and that just hit really well for me. I hope this sees some success here.
Hitbound:
Conan Gray- The Best
Lady Gaga/ Doechii- Runway (Debut)
Casey Lee Williams/ Andrew Kierszenbaum- Fire For Me
Katseye- Pinky Up (Debut)
Tiffany Stringer- Damn Good Actress (Debut)
Cody Simpson- Baby Blue
Myles Smith- My Mess (Debut)
Zayn- Sideways
The Cab- Back From The Dead
Holly Humberstone- White Noise (Debut)
Teddy Swims- Mr Know It All (Debut)
Charlie Puth- Reply To This
Ella Langley- Bottom Of Your Boots (Debut)
Ravyn Lenae/ Dominic Fike- Reputation
Melanie Martinez- Uncanny Valley
Monsta X- Heal
Our first debut is a collab from Lady Gaga and Doechii from the new Devil Wears Prada 2 movie, this is called Runway. This is rather cool. It reminds me of something that Charli XCX would do a couple years ago, and in a good way. The beat here is super catchy and both of them sound really good here. Catchy song.
With their future seemingly uncertain, Katseye has a new song on here called Pinky Up. This also rather fun, kind of what I've come to expect from them these days. The beat here is rather fun and all of them sound pretty good. I'll take more songs from them like this.
Tiffany Stringer brings her second song to Hitbound this week, this is called Damn Good Actress. This is a solid song, though it definitely isn't as good as Bullet was. The production is rather mysterious in a good way and I think she sounds pretty good, it definitely could have been in a different key that was more fit for this kind of song. This definitely has room to grow on me though.
We also have new music from Myles Smith on here, this is called My Mess. This is another good song from him. The production here gives a line dance type of feel and Myles Smith sounds pretty good here per usual. I'll take this.
Holly Humberstone replaces herself this week, this song is called White Noise. This is good. It has a decent enough beat and Holly Humberstone sounds pretty good here, and this seems to be about recovering from a breakup and going to a club while doing so. I'd still prefer To Love Somebody though.
Oh goodie. Our next song is from Teddy Swims, this is called Mr Know It All. Yes, he jacked the title from a 2012 Kelly Clarkson song. And said Kelly Clarkson is better than this. The beat is solid enough, and he sounds pretty good, there are some strange elements to the tempo, and I would have preferred it in a different key. So not bad, but it could have been better.
Our last debut is a new song from Ella Langley, this is called Bottom Of Your Boots. Mikey Piff said this didn't sound like a country song, but I feel like it does. And it's pretty good too. It has a really good beat and She sounds really good here and I take it that this is supposed to be about she wants to be loved by somebody. So yeah, really good song.
We lost Click Clack Symphony, Touch And Go, Tweak, Cruel World (as I seemingly implied), When Did You Get So Hot, and Club Song. Click Clack Symphony is in the abyss, so who knows what will happen there, Touch And Go, Cruel World, and When Did You Get So Hot were honestly on the forgettable side, I could have done without the key change on Tweak, and Club Song should have been a hit.
Blurbs:
Our lone exit was Aperture. I'm surprised it never made #1, but I'm definitely relieved it didn't.
Good to see Swim finally jumping.
I could have done without Younger You jumping off the debut though.
And I will take Faithless starting to surge.
Hopefully, the upward momentum for Fever Dream also continues.
There wasn't really a whole lot else noteworthy, aside from I Just Might still being #1. I feel like we may need a new #1 soon since I Just Might has been #1 for 7 weeks now.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
