My review on the new Post Malone album
Hello everyone, today I will be reviewing Post Malone's new album 12 Carat Toothache. Let's get into it.
I will be reviewing the album track by track, writing a blurb on each song, then giving it a ranking of awful, mediocre, decent, good, or great. By the way, a red ranking equals awful song from now on.Track 1: Reputation
Okay, so this is an interesting intro. It is just over four minutes long. He sounds good here, but the production does not really suite his voice, it could be better.
Ranking: Decent
Track 2: Cooped Up (with Roddy Ricch)
I have already talked about this in a Hits 1 post two weeks ago. I liked this a lot, there is more going on production than the first song on the album and Roddy delivers a good verse.
Ranking: Great
Track 3: Lemon Tree
Anyone remember Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish? I do, and I liked that song when it was popular. The point is, this next track, Lemon Tree, reminds me of that track, as it starts out moderately empty at the beginning, and then picks up halfway in between. The difference is the melodies remain the same throughout
Ranking: Good
Track 4: Wrapped Around Your Finger
Most interesting production so far, still not as good as Cooped Up. Literally every song on this so far is in the same key
Ranking: Good
Track 5: I Like You (with Doja Cat)
My favorite so far. I feel like he is going for the summer song style, with both the production and lyrics screaming summer, Doja delivers a great verse here, and the whole thing reminds me of South of the Border by Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, and Cardi B from 2020. Would not call it summerier than Brisa by Zion & Lennox and Danny Ocean though.
Ranking: Great
Track 6: I Cannot Be (with Gunna)
Okay, this is the one that feels the most like Rockstar in my opinion. He sounds good here, and Gunna does a great verse here. I probably won't come back to this, however.
Ranking: Great
Track 7: Insane
All right, this one sounds exactly like the previous one, except no Gunna and it is in F# major.
Ranking: Decent
Track 8: Love/ Hate Letter To Alcohol (with Fleet Foxes)
Yeah I remember he performed this on SNL a few weeks ago. This has interesting production and he sounds good, the production fells pretty ceremonial in a way, and I fell like this Fleet Foxes group produced this. I might not come back to to this though.
Ranking: Good
Track 9: Wasting Angels (With The Kid Laroi)
Ok what is this? This would have been a great song if there was more going on in the production here. But there is no beat to support this, even though they both sound great and there is interesting lyrical content.
Ranking: Good
Track 10: Euthanasia
Not sure how to describe this, the whole thing is mostly decent, I guess
Ranking: Decent
Track 11: When I'm Alone
FINALLY! INTERESTING PRODUCTION! That and he sounds great here. But I'm still not feeling this one a whole lot.
Ranking: Good
Track 12: Waiting For A Miracle
The Most empty so far, and I feel like there are not many lyrics
Ranking: Mediocre
Track 13: One Right Now (with The Weeknd)
I liked this a lot when it came out in November, but it faded on me since then. I feel like I just needed a break from it, because I feel as though I have grown back into it.
Ranking: Great
This last one is not really a song, so I won't go over it.
It was fine overall, I feel like he needs to get someone like Barker or Wheezy to produce his next album though. I will see you guys for my countdown post tomorrow.
tbh I found 12CT very disappointing. Also Insane is a great song
