#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Don Toliver/ Doja Cat- Lose My Mind

We're starting off with my favorite debut from this week, Pretty Ugly by Zara Larsson. And this might be one of my favorite songs from her. It has a catchy beat to it and is in G Minor, plus Zara Larsson sounds quite good per usual, even in that hook that reminds me of Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani more than it probably should. Super fun.

Apparently, it's been nine years since Lorde last appeared on the countdown, Solar Power dropped out of Hitbound in 2021, and apparently, so did Green Light in 2017 (my personal favorite song from her, by the way), because her last countdown appearance was Magnets with Disclosure in 2016. This new song is called What Was That, and... it's a bit interesting, not really anything I have any interest in listening to in the long term. The production is synthpop but feels a bit minimalistic for what it is supposed to be imo, although Lorde sounds pretty good here. So I'll take it.

Lastly, we have Benson Boone bringing another song on to the countdown, this is called Mystical Magical. And this is definitely among his better songs, it honestly lives up to its title. The beat is quite cool and this is one of Benson Boone's better vocal performances. Such a fun song.

Hitbound:
Kesha/ T Pain- Yippee Ki Yay
Ed Sheeran- Old Phone (Debut)
Hayes Warner- Threw Me Away
Maroon 5/ Lisa- Priceless (Debut)
The Paradox- Do Me Like That (Debut)
Shaboozey/ Myles Smith- Blink Twice
Dove Cameron- French Girls (Debut)
Jessie Murph- Blue Strips (Debut)
The Summer Set- Adidas
Joe Jonas- Heart By Heart
Knox- Going Going Gone
Emei- Crazy Stupid Love
Myles Smith- My First Heartbreak
Lauren Spencer-Smith- If Karma Doesn't Get You
Michael Clifford- Cool
BigXThaPlug/ Bailey Zimmerman- All The Way

First up, we have a new single from Ed Sheeran called Old Phone. Not gonna lie, I kind of like this one more than Azizam. Sure, the production is a bit slow but it's interesting enough to allow me to pay attention to the lyrics, which are the best. They seem to describe a past relationship or a late family member or friend and why he ditched his old phone in the first place. Plus, it's in Bb major, so that's always a bonus. Good song.

We're finally hearing new music from Maroon 5 for the first time in almost two years, last time I talked about them was Middle Ground in the summer of 2023, which was tolerable but nothing all that great. Today, they bring us a collab with Lisa called Priceless, and this is quite good. It has a really good beat to it and Adam Levine sounds quite good here per usual, and Lisa's verse fits in quite well. Strange collab (although nowhere near as strange as Pitbull and Bon Jovi collaborating), but it works.

This next song is from a band called The Paradox called Do Me Like That. This is nothing short of a banger. The production is pop punk, and Eric Dangerfield (the lead vocalist of this band) sounds quite good here. Glad I heard this.

Next up, I have to talk about Dove Cameron because of course I do. This is an interesting song. The beat is kind of cool and Dove Cameron sounds good here, plus this gives off the vibes of a Lady Gaga song, specifically a classic one. Solid song.

Just great. The last song I have to talk about is a Jessie Murph song, specifically one that's apparently #18 on the hot 100 as of when I'm writing this, called Blue Strips. And yeah, this sucks ass. This reminds me way too much of Need To Know by Doja Cat in a rather distracting way and it sounds somewhat repetitive, plus she doesn't sound that great here. I swear, if this jumps on the hot 100 next week, we'll have some major problems.

We lost Undressed and Love Me Not. I can do without Undressed but Love Me Not might've been starting to grow on me, so I would've preferred if that had debuted.

Blurbs:
Our exits were Bed Chem, Still Bad, and Luther. I'm quite relieved that Taste is finally gone, Still Bad was just there for me, and Luther was here for too long and already starting to fade on me, so I'm not complaining about any of these.

Don't know if I should be surprised that I Ain't Coming Back didn't jump more on Week 2.

Messy might be on its way out.

Ordinary jumped huge into the top 15. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Jesus Christ, we don't need Busy Woman jumping any more.

Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else jumped huge again. I definitely wouldn't mind him having another top 5 hit, even if his new song is better.

And that's it, the only noteworthy thing happening in the top 5 is Call Me When You Break Up and Bad Dreams switching spots.

I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
