#1 Recommendations For Hits 1: The Chainsmokers/ Ship Wrek- The Fall and MGK/ Glaive- More Than Life
Up First is the better debut from Post Malone's new album 12 Carat Toothache, I Like You with Doja Cat. I feel as though he is trying to go for the summer song style, with the production and lyrics screaming summer. Doja Cat also delivers a great verse, and the whole thing reminds me of South Of The Border by Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, and Cardi B from 2020. I really want this to do well here.
Up next, we have Panic At The Disco's latest, Viva Las Vengeance. You'll notice I moved this back down a tier from last week, that's because I'm still distracted by the consistent key changes throughout the song. But he still sounds fine and the production is kind of cool. I'd be fine with this jumping for now, but I could see this getting annoying fairly quickly.
(trying not to laugh my head off while typing) Well guys, I have a new favorite countdown song, Jiggle Jiggle by Duke & Jones and Louis Theroux. I've heard some very funny songs over the years, but not quite like this. So essentially, Louis Theroux is a journalist from the UK, which just makes it all the more funnier. You can hear his British accent really well, and the way he says Jiggle Jiggle along to Duke & Jones' production makes me crack up really hard. I would love nothing more than for this song to do well here and not flop at all.
The other debut off 12 Carat Toothache is Wrapped Around Your Finger. This exists I guess... it's really forgettable and I feel like I like You should have been the only song off 12 Carat Toothache that Hits 1 picked up on.
Lastly, Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga re-entered at #23. Couldn't care less
Hitbound (not including Sunday Bests)
Maggie Rogers- Want Want
Marshmello/ Khalid- Numb (Debut)
Halsey- So Good (Debut)
Lizzo- Grrrls (Debut)
88Rising/ Bibi- Best Lover
Alec Benjamin- Devil Doesn't Bargain
Dixie- Wild
Eddie Benjamin/ Alessia Cara- Only You (Debut)
Amelia Moore- I Feel Everything
Demi Lovato- Skin Of My Teeth (Debut)
Madeline The Person- Mean
Muni Long/ Saweetie- Baby Boo (Debut)
Tate Mcrae- Don't Come Back
Charlotte Sands- Dress (Debut)
Conor Maynard- Pgnl
Mimi Webb- Goodbye
So I already shared my thoughts on three of our debuts on my New Music Friday post a couple days ago, including this first one, Numb by Marshmello and Khalid. When I first heard this song would exist, I was reminded of Linkin Park's 2004 song of the same name, now I find both of them just as good. I really enjoy this. Marshmello's production here reminds me a lot of Imanbek's production style., and that's a good thing because I've always liked Imanbek's production style. Also, Khalid's accent works really well with this production. I hope this does well unlike the last three songs from The Chainsmokers that Hits 1 picked up on
Up next a not as good song I talked about in that NMF post I made, So Good by Halsey. This is fine, the production here reminds me of that on Hardest To Love by The Weeknd and Halsey sounds god here, but it's not too memorable. I do think this will do well here and maybe it will grow on me...
Lizzo brings us a new song this week called Grrrlz (pronounced girls) and this is essentially the much better version of Juice from three years ago, and I don't particularly care for that song. This new song, however, I fully enjoy. The production is super cool and she sounds great throughout. Safe to say this might be my favorite song from her. We'll see if this debuts.
Well they actually picked up on Eddie Benjamin's new song with Alessia Cara. No surprise, since they usually pick up on follow-ups to One To Watch songs, such as Girls Like Us by Zoe Wees, way too many Ashe songs, with Till Forever Falls Apart being the only one I actually liked a fair bit, Let You by Iann Dior, To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jax, and surprisingly not Don't Freak Out by Huddy, Iann Dior, Tyson Ritter, and Travis Barker or Story Of My Life by Illennium, Sueco, and Trippie Redd. However, we do have this new Eddie Benjamin song, and I like it a lot. He sounds good here, and as does Alessia Cara, which is surprising given how much I disliked Sweet Dream from last year (but it's not my #52 in the rankdown, I hinted what my #52 is in both of my last two countdown posts). Also, the slower production fits the song really well here. And remember at the end of Out Of Time by The Weeknd when Jim Carrey said "Here's 30 minutes of easy listening on 103.5 Dawn FM"? Well, We have a similar outro here with two British people having a conversation in the last 30 seconds. Shockingly, unlike Jim Carrey in Out Of Time, Hits 1 did not edit this outro out. So... Will this do well? I hope so
Demi Lovato brings us their first song since Met Him Last Night and actually their first song since coming out as nonbinary last year, this one is called Skin Of My Teeth. I really like the pop punk production here, and I wonder if Barker had anything to do with it... (checks credits) apparently not. Still good, though. Also, Demi Lovato sounds great here. I have one condition for this doing well, it's that Spyder does not consistently misgender Demi like Mikey Piff did when introducing this song during Hitbound. Do better, Hits 1
So up next, we have Baby Boo by Muni Long and Saweetie. I have a really great track record with Saweetie's music, as I liked all four songs of hers that Hits 1 picked up on, especially Hit It with the Black Eyed Peas from last year. Anyways, this new song is such a bop. Muni long sounds good here and I really like Saweetie's verse here. Also, Trey said that Muni Long and Saweetie sound almost identical, but I can actually disagree with that statement. Please don't drop out please don't drop out please don't drop out...
Ok this is now four weeks in a row that I have to talk about an artist that I have never heard of before. We had Stephen Sanchez, then Madeline The Person, then Amelia Moore, and now, Dress by Charlotte Sands is on here. This is fine, Charlotte Sands has a great voice and the production feels very typical Chainsmokers, but the lyrical content is slightly... well... distracting to say the least, but all other aspects of the song keep it in blue.
We lost Overthinking, Gfy, Something To Someone, Too Precious, and FINALLY Don't Lose Sight this week. I really wish the first two had debuted because they were really great, and Too precious was growing on me, so I'm sad that that's gone, too. Something To Someone was never too memorable and Don't Lose Sight was here for way too long, so I'm glad that that's finally gone.
Blurbs
Our exits were Flowers, Honest, Cooped Up, Potion, and Get Into It Yuh. Even though I'm surprised Flowers left after its big jump last week, I'm genuinely happy, because I never liked the song, and Get Into It Yuh was good but Doja Cat definitely has better songs. As for the other three, I really enjoyed them, and they all deserved longer runs than they got. Also, I am assuming Hits 1's Ramsay Hunt Syndrome protocols are just to remove all of your songs from the countdown the day after you announce you have it. If so, that is by far the least fair set of protocols I have ever heard.
Why is To The Moon continuing to flop?
At least Supermodel is continuing to climb. It's at #24 this week.
Ayy nice to see Until I Found You almost in the top 20
Love Me More is now in the top 20. That's amazing.
Out Of Time and She's All I Wanna Be might be on their last weeks here
I've once again decided I don't like Late Night Talking, this decision came after its big jump last week. Did not know how long the non-red ranking on it would last.
On the topic of songs I hate, 10 Things I Hate About You is now in the top 10. This really did not need to happen. I hope this is short lived.
Umm... Sunroof at #3? Was not expecting that, but I am happy because it's a good song. I would love to see this dethrone Ass It Was next week.
Anyways, that's going to do it for me this week, see you guys next week
