one bad debut but a lot of movement... how do I describe this? (Week of 7/16/2022)
All right welcome back to another countdown post. One minor announcement, I have a family reunion to go to next weekend, I will see if I am able to get my post out then, but it will definitely be out Sunday at the latest. Well guys, our only debut is Glimpse Of Us by Joji. Why can't they have gotten Don't You Worry, Wasted On You, etc. on here instead? Yeah, this song is quite bad, it makes Ass It Was and 10 Things I Hate About You good by comparison, although Ass It Was will definitely end up higher on my worst of 2022 list. It (Glimpse Of Us) is way too slow, and the production does not evolve at all. This literally belongs in a church and not the radio. I don't know why Joji had to stop making funny Youtube videos under the Filthy Frank moniker and start making ballads like this. In his own words, IT'S TIME TO STOP! IT'S TIME TO STOP, OKAY? NO MORE!
Hitbound:
Muni Long/ Saweetie- Baby Boo
Duke & Jones/ Louis Theroux/ Jason Derulo- Jiggle Jiggle (Re-entry/ Debut)
Charlotte Sands- Dress
Lizzo- To Be Loved (Debut)
Jax- Victoria's Secret
Blackbear- The Idea
Demi Lovato- Substance (Debut)
Saucy Santana/ Latto- Booty
Calvin Harris/ Justin Timberlake/ Halsey/ Pharrell- Stay With Me (Debut)
5 Seconds Of Summer- Blender (Debut)
Dixie- Someone To Blame
Ellie Goulding/ Big Sean- Easy Lover (Debut)
Dove Cameron- Breakfast
Conan Gray- Disaster
Future/ Drake/ Tems- Wait 4 U (Debut)
Jiggle Jiggle re-entered but with a remix from Jason Derulo. I prefer the original, but this is not bad. Louis Theroux's hook is as funny as ever, but Jason Derulo's verses are not as funny as Louis Theroux's verse in the original and they don't go with the song that well. But since the production is the same as the same as the original, I still enjoy it. I feel like someone like Jack Harlow or Snoop Dogg would be better on a remix of this.
Lizzo's album Special was released yesterday, and we have a new song from it called To Be Loved. I'm not exactly so sure what's so special about it. It feels super generic even though she sounds fine. The only super memorable part is the key change, and if the whole song were in A Major, the song would probably be great. But the majority of it is not, so it's only decent.
Next up we have another Demi Lovato pop punk song called Substance. This is better than Skin Of My Teeth, they sound fine, better than the aforementioned song, and the production is fun, even though not by Barker. I would like to see a Demi Lovato/ MGK collab in the future.
Ok I think I had high expectations for this next song, Stay With Me by Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and Pharrell. Calvin Harris's production is pretty interesting, honestly more than in Potion, and JT, Halsey, and Pharrell all sound great, it just gets really repetitive at parts and it's kind of forgettable. I'd be fine with this debuting though. I wanted it to be great, but it's just good.
Well, these last three debuts are pretty great. We have a new 5 Seconds Of Summer song called Blender. This is pretty great. Luke Hemmings sounds great here and the production is super fun. I'd like to see this do well here and I have no doubts that it will.
It's been three years since Ellie Goulding appeared on Hits 1, the last song of hers I remember on Hits 1 was Hate Me with Juice Wrld in 2019. Anyways, today, she brings us Easy Lover with Big Sean, whom I don't know has appeared on Hits 1 before, but I do know his verse on Feels by Calvin Harris was edited out. Anyways, I like this new song. She sounds great throughout, but my favorite part might be Big Sean's verse. He has an interesting accent that goes super well with the production which is great. I really hope this does well here.
And saving the best for last, we have Wait 4 U by Future, Drake, and Tems, off Future's album I Never Liked You from earlier this year, which dropped the same day as Skyline, Love Me More, Maybe You're The Problem, Brisa, and Can't Stop Us Now, which means the last two could still debut, which I would really appreciate. I really enjoy this one. All three of them sound great throughout (although Tems sounded better in Essence by Wizkid and Bieber, which I really liked btw) and ATL Jacob's production is super cool. I really hope this does not flop.
We lost Witch, Got Me Good, Betty Get Money, Wasted On You, and Life's Too Short. I have forgotten what the first two sound like, so I'm fine with them going. I really wish Betty Get Money lasted for more than one week, so I'm sad that that one's gone, and Wasted On You and Life's Too Short are both in the abyss, so per my unpopular opinion, I hope both of them debut next week.
Blurbs:
Our only exit was All 4 Nothing. It was not that great, but I would have preferred it over Glimpse Of Us.
Great seeing Break My Soul jump three songs off its debut.
I really hope Numb Little Bug and Sweetest Pie leave next week after their big drops this week.
No, why did Devil Doesn't Bargain drop five spots after making the top 20 last week?
At least it was replaced by Left And Right
Finally! 10 Things I Hate About You fell out of the top 15 this week!
Numb, Until I Found You, and I Like You all got big jumps. Yay for all of them although I still think Until I Found You would be better remixed
The easy best part of the week was Ass It Was falling nine spots. I hope this leaves next week.
Ayy Potion is now in the top 10. Let's Go!!
I sure hope Supermodel makes the top 5 next week.
(sighs) Did we really need Late Night Toppling at #3? I don't think so.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
