Our first debut is Make You Say by Zedd, Maren Morris, and Beauz. This is 100% an improvement over The Middle, Zedd and Maren Morris's really overrated collab from 2018. The production from Zedd and Beauz is really cool and Maren Morris sounds better than in previous songs I've heard from her. I really want this to be huge here, and Since The Middle was huge, I have no doubts.
So this next song debuted hitbound last week, and I accidentally forgot to write a review on it in the hitbound debuts section of my post. So anyways, Don't Let The Lights Go Out by Panic At The Disco is here. I'm not super sold on this. He sounded fine, but the song is kinda slow and forgettable. I'm unsure why they are flopping Panic At The Disco's music now, but it's cool, none of the VLV singles were as great as his previous work.
Lastly, Kane Brown brings his first solo song to Hits 1, this is called Grand. I really enjoy this one. He sounds great here and the production is very fun. I hope this can do well here.
Hitbound
Sofia Carson- Come Back Home
Cheat Codes/ Russell Dickerson- I Remember (Debut)
Havanna Winter- Rain Rain Go Away
Rema/ Selena Gomez- Calm Down (Debut)
Macklemore/ Windser- Maniac
Demi Lovato- 29
Talk- Run Away To Mars (Debut)
Ashe- Emotional (Debut)
Anees- Sun And Moon (Debut)
Blackbear- Dead Inside (Debut)
Role Model- Cross Your Mind (Debut)
Burna Boy- Last Last
Elton John/ Britney Spears- Hold Me Closer (Debut)
Huddy- All The Things I Hate About You
Bazzi- Heaven (Debut)
I have a theory about Cheat Codes' three part Hellraisers album, as in part 1 is R & B, part 2 is pop punk, and part 3 is country, as they put out How Do You Love with Lee Brice and Lindsay Ell earlier this year and now they bring us I Remember with Russell Dickerson. I generally have a great track record with Cheat Codes' music, No Promises from 2017 was such a great song, and this song is also really great. Their production is extremely catchy, and Russell Dickerson sounds great. The writing also hits home for college people like myself. I really want this to do well.
Afropop singer Rema is now on Hits 1. Earlier this year, he had a song called Calm Down that was really good, and yesterday, he put out a remix of that song with Selena Gomez that has now made its way to Hits 1. This remix is pretty good. He has a really interesting accent, and Selena Gomez also sounds great, although I'm not really loving when she does the chorus. I hope this does well.
So this next song apparently came out last year and is going viral on Tiktok now, this is Run Away To Mars by Talk, and I'm not sure if this is a band or a solo singer. It's fine. the dude has an interesting accent but it's too slow. I guess I shouldn't expect it to do too well though.
Stop picking up Ashe. She's not that relevant and no one really cares that much about her. Yet she still has a new song on Hitbound called Emotional. Although this one is actually kind of good, not gonna lie. I like the latin vibe that she is going for here, and she sounds great too. This more of what I'm expecting from here.
Next up, we have newcomer Anees with his song Sun And Moon. I'm really enjoying this right now. Anees has a really interesting accent and it fits the production super well. I really hope this is the next One To Watch.
Yesterday, Blackbear released his album In Loving Memory. I haven't listened to it yet, as I was listening to DJ Khaled's album God Did (notice I added a couple songs from that album to my ever-growing list of recommendations for Hits 1), but this song off it (ILM), Dead Inside, is really great, though not as good as Toxic Energy from a few weeks ago. He sounds great here and the production is super fun, it doesn't feel as vibey as Toxic Energy or Gfy from earlier this year. However, that's not bad enough to keep the song from being great. I just need to listen to it more.
After almost two years, one to watch alum Role Model (yes, the dude whose real name Spyder was obsessed with saying for whatever reason) is back on Hits 1. I kind of liked Going Out from two years ago, and he also had a song last year called Forever & More that was really good, although it never made Hits 1. This new song, Cross Your Mind, might be the best thing I've heard from him so far. He sounds better than previous songs of his and the production feels super upbeat, like in Going Out. The writing also hits kinda hard, as I heard Mikey Piff say it was about Role Model missing his GF. I'd like this to be a hit here.
Just two more, I promise. Next up, we have Hold Me Closer by Elton John and Britney Spears. I'm not too familiar with Elton John's older music, but I definitely liked Cold Heart from last year though. On this new song, Hold Me Closer, I feel as though he is doing something similar to Cold Heart, which was an EDM medley of four of his older songs, although I only recognized the Rocket Man interpolation in the chorus. What I mean is that this song interpolates his song Tiny Dancer. This interpolation is executed pretty well and he and Britney Spears both sound good here. I hope this can be as huge as Cold Heart was.
Lastly, we have Bazzi's latest, Heaven. I've already forgotten what this sounds like, although I do remember it being pretty good. He sounds great here and I sort of remember interesting production in it. I really need to listen to this more.
We lost Snap, Pink Venom (or as everyone started calling it and what I will be calling it, Pink Vomit), Love Me Or Leave Me Alone, Someone To Blame, Drowsy, Sucks To Know You, Ferrari, and Obsessed this week. The first three are in the abyss, and Someone To Blame, Drowsy, and Sucks To Know You were not that great, so I'm fine with those going, and both Ferrari and Obsessed were great songs that deserved to debut the countdown.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Me Myself & I, Middle Of A Breakup, and Supermodel. Me Myself & I has been here for a while, so I'm fine with that going even though it was a great song, I already talked about Middle Of A breakup flopping in my review of his other song this week but I am fine with it going since it was not all that great, and Supermodel should not have left from so high up especially after jumping four spots last week
Both debuts from last week dropped one spot. I hope they can rebound, especially Are You Entertained
Ugh. Glimpse Of Us climbed three spots this week. It really annoyed me that Mikey Piff was emphasizing that this is his mom's favorite song right now
Can Don't You Worry lease stop flopping?
On a positive note, I Won't is now in the top 20
Looks like About Damn Time's historic countdown run is coming to an end. But I will take it over its successor though
I've decided I don't like So Good. It's really annoying now. This was decided by its four spot rebound this week. I hope this is out in the coming weeks
Worse, Victoria's Secret is in the top 10. Do people actually like this? This needs to be short lived.
2 Be Loved also doesn't need to be in the top 10.
On a much happier note, Numb has cracked the top 5. I'd really like this to hit #1 next week.
Annddd.... Late Night Toppling is back at #1. Seriously?
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week
