When things somewhat start to make sense (Week of 2/18/2023)
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another countdown post. My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: MGK/ Halsey- Forget Me Too
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Zion & Lennox- Desnudate
A few weeks ago, Boy's A Liar by Pink Pantheress dropped out of Hitbound, and then a remix with Ice Spice was released, now that remix is on the countdown. This is better than the original. Pink Pantheress sounds better here than on the original, and I really like Ice Spice's verse, it adds a lot. Great song.
On the topic of songs that dropped out of Hitbound and were in the abyss for a few weeks, Too Well by Renee Rapp is here. This one is really good. It has super cool production and Renee Rapp sounds really good, I also like the key that it is in. I want this to be a huge hit.
Last week, Lizzo put out a remix to the title track of her album Special with Sza, and that comes in at #26. I like this one more than the original. Sza's contributions go really well with the song and both sound really good. Super interesting song.
This last debut could be the first husband and wife duet to ever make the countdown. So Kane Brown has previously collaborated with Marshmello, Swae Lee, Khalid, Blackbear, and maybe more, but his new song Thank God features his wife Katelyn. This actually turned out really well. Both of them sound great here and the production sets the mood in every possible way. I'm glad this is a thing on pop radio, hopefully Hits 1 treats it like that.
Hitbound
Dove Cameron/ Khalid- We Go Down Together
Niall Horan- Heaven (Debut)
Morgan Wallen- Last Night
Latto/ Lu Kala- Lottery (Debut)
Bebe Rexha- Heart Wants What It Wants (Debut)
Lauren Spencer-Smith- Best Friend Breakup
Linkin Park- Lost (Debut)
Role Model- A Little More Time (Debut)
Zara Larsson- Can't Tame Her
Big Boss Vette- Pretty Girls Walk
Jvke- This Is What Heartbreak Feels Like (Debut)
Mae Stephens- If We Ever Broke Up (Debut)
Nessa Barrett- Bang Bang (Debut)
Charlie On A Friday- That's What I Get
Jordi- Hate You
Patrick Martin- Dandelion Eyes (Debut)
I'm not sure who wanted this or not, but Niall Horan dropped new music for the first time in three years, and I'm not ready for Hits 1 to overrate the hell out of Heaven, his new song. This is pretty good, it sounds a lot like Voices by Ksi and Oliver Tree, a song that I have been liking these past few weeks. This isn't as good as that one, but still really good.
Latto is back on Hits 1 with her new song Lottery with someone named Lu Kala. This is really good, better than Big Energy but not quite as good as Sunshine or Booty. It reminds me of something like Kiss Me More by Doja Cat and Sza or Closer by Saweetie and H.e.r. and I mean this as a compliment. Lu Kala's hook is really good and I really like Latto's verses here. I hope this can do well.
After the well deserved success of I'm Good last year, Bebe Rexha has a new song called Heart Wants What It Wants. This is really good, and I don't care that she stole the title from Selena Gomez even though I liked her song with that title. Bebe Rexha sounds really good and this has some super cool production. I would like this to be a hit.
Now for the big one. For the first time since the death of Chester Bennington in 2017, Linkin Park has new music. Lost was actually recorded in 2003 and was supposed to be on their album Meteora (the same album that spawned Numb, btw) but it sounded way too much like Numb so they left it off the album and forgot about it until a couple weeks ago as this year marks 20 years since Meteora was released, now I'm branding this their big comeback single. On to the song itself, this is honestly my favorite song right now. This gives off the vibes of Numb and their 2012 song Burn It Down, which is also really good, and Chester Bennington sounded amazing throughout. I hope this can become the big LP comeback single it's meant to be.
I guess the rest of these debuts exist then, next up, we have a new Role Model song called A Little More Time. I usually like Role Model's music, but this is my "least favorite" song from him, although it's not bad at all. He sounds pretty good but the production is pretty slow, plus it's pretty forgettable. I guess I should listen to this more.
Last year, Jvke put out an album called This is what ____ feels like, and today, we get a new single off that album called This Is What Heartbreak Feels Like. This is really good, better than Golden Hour but not quite as good as This Is What Falling In Love Feels Like or Hero. The production is really cool and Jvke sounds good like always, but this time, he sounds more like a cross between Benson Boone and 24kgoldn. Nice.
And then we have random newcomers, because why not? So up first, we have If We Ever Broke Up by Mae Stephens. I'm not completely sold on this, it's in a super generic key but she sounds pretty good, honestly like a cross between Raye and Mimi Webb, and in this case, that's a good thing.
I would not mind this being a 1TW in the future.
Next up, song #2 with an unoriginal title, Bang Bang by Nessa Barrett. I liked Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj's song of the same title from 2014, but this isn't as good. It's quite forgettable, although she sounds fine and I also remember it having interesting production, I just need to listen to this more.
Lastly, we have one more song from a random newcomer, this is Dandelion Eyes by Patrick Martin. I think this is becoming a thing on Tiktok one day after its release, and I'm fine. This is pretty cool. I like the production here and Patrick Martin sounds like a cross between Stephen Sanchez and Nicky Youre. I'm just not sold on the key it's in yet. But it's fine.
We lost What Happened To Ryan, Death Wish, Last Call, Alright, You Only Love Me, The One, and Blurry Vision. For the first two, I'm glad Mikey Piff got his head out of his ass and replaced them with Lost. I wish Last Call was given a shot at the countdown because it was pretty good, and I was going to move The One and Alright up to green this week because they have been growing on me quite a bit. And You Only Love Me was only good, so I'm fine with that going.
Blurbs
Our exits were Forget Me, Anti Hero (finally), F64, and Die For You. Forget Me is by far my favorite Lewis Capaldi song, and I'm glad it had success here. Anti Hero, however, did not deserve as much success as it got, not just on Hits 1 but literally everywhere else as well. I wish F64 had become a hit on here because it was pretty good, and with Die For You leaving, I hope we can recognize that old songs belong nowhere near the radio.
Guess the original Players rebounded. Fine to see although the DJ Smallz 732 remix is better
Evangeline also jumped. So... starting off normal so far.
I'm fine with I'm In Love With You in the top 20.
I'm Not Here To Make Friends also jumped into the top 20. I'm happier about that.
Why did Sex Drugs Etc rebound? This seriously needs to leave ASAP.
Ayy Love From The Other Side jumped into the top 15. I hope this is top 10 next week.
Guess Made You Puke might be on its way out.
Why. The. Actual. FUCK. Is. Bloody Mary. In. The. Top. 10
Why. The. Actual. FUCK. Is. Creepin. dropping
STOP! Making Weapons a huge hit
Umm... Uh Oh in the top 5? Ok then, but this has started to fade on me.
So Flowers held onto #1. I'd be fine with this blocking Lavender Haze, but I really don't want this to be #1 for way too long. I hope Creepin and Eyes On You can both hit #1 in the coming weeks.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys on Monday when I start reveals for my Rankdown
I want omg, here with me, and fall in love alone on hitbound
