Selection Sunday Weekend edition (Week of 3/11/2023)
Hello everyone, and sorry for the late post. I got wrapped up in watching basketball over the weekend as well as the March Madness selection show. I will actually be going down to Dayton tomorrow and Wednesday to see the First Four, since I am living really close to Dayton at the moment. Recommendations for Hits 1: Oliver Tree/ David Guetta- Here We Go Again and Sigala/ Mae Muller/ Caity Baser/ Stefflon Don- Feels This Good
Up first, Jvke replaces himself with This Is What Heartbreak Feels Like. This is really good, better than Golden Hour but not as good as This Is What Falling In Love Feels Like or Hero. It has some cool production and he sounds really good, almost like a cross between 24kgoldn and Benson Boone. I'd like to see this have some success here.
Next up, we have another new song from Gracie Abrams called I Know It Won't Work. This is not as good as Where Do We Go Now but still fine. She sounds fine but it is a bit too slow. I know she has done better before.
And then... we have this. It's new music from Jax after the disaster that was Victoria's Secret, this is called Cinderella Snapped. People have said this gives off Victoria's Secret vibes. I can sort of see that, except this is better, but not by a whole lot. Honestly, the production and key here make more sense. Let's see if this opinion stays...
Hitbound
Patrick Martin- Dandelion Eyes
Meghan Trainor- Mother (Debut)
Renee Rapp- Bruises
Macklemore/ Collett- No Bad Days
Miley Cyrus- River (Debut)
Lizzy McAlpine- Ceilings (Debut)
Mimi Webb- Freezing (Debut)
Nicky Youre- Found (Debut)
Calvin Harris/ Ellie Goulding- Miracle (Debut)
Big Boss Vette- Pretty Girls Walk
Jessie Murph- Where Do You Go
Benson Boone- Sugar Sweet (Debut)
Loud Luxury/ Dvbbs/ Kane Brown- Next To You
Beabadoobee- Glue Song
We have new Meghan Trainor up first, this is called Mother. I liked Charlie Puth's song of the same title a few years ago but this might be better. Apparently this samples a song from the 1950s called Mr Sandman, but I'm not sure how this sample was used as I don't listen to 50s music. Anyways, She does a great job here, and the use of the sample works pretty well, wherever it might be, and it is topped off by cool production. I hope this can be somewhat huge.
Safe to say it is a relief that Miley Cyrus's new album Endless Summer Vacation is here, simply because Mikey Piff got super impatient for it, he added a demo ballad of Flowers to Hitbound last week. So that is replaced by an actual song from the album called River. This is better than Flowers but not quite as good as Eminem and Ed Sheeran's song of the same title from five years ago. I think she sounds better than on a few other songs of hers. Also, I like the production, which is almost an EDM vibe, the closest she's done to EDM is Nothing Breaks Like A Heart with Mark Ronson in late 2018/ early 2019, and I liked that song quite a bit. I would like this to do well, but at the same time, not be as overrated as Flowers.
So... Lizzy McAlpine is now on here with Ceilings. I know of this song because Daniel has previously talked about it, #1 on his trending chart previous weeks. And for the love of God, I don't get the appeal to this. She sounds fine but it is a fair bit too slow except towards the end. I just don't want this to be the 1TW any time soon please and thank you Hits 1...
We also have another Mimi Webb song here called Freezing. Red Flags is starting to fade on me, and this new song is fine. It has an interesting production style but it is really forgettable, maybe it's been three days since I heard this on HB. Who knows?
Nicky Youre is back with a new song called Found, and it's from a Netflix movie called The Magic Elephant. This is... uh... not what I expected coming from him. What I expect coming from him is songs that sound like Sunroof or Eyes On You or at least in Bb major, and this is neither of those. He sounds fine here and I like the production here, but this was made for someone other than Nicky Youre.
Now for my favorite debut this week. Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding have teamed up again on Miracle. These two previously collaborated on Outside and I Need Your Love, both of which I liked and both of which were actually released before Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1. Between the two Funk Wav Bounces albums, he did a few EDM songs, including One Kiss, Promises, Giant, Over Now, and By Your Side, all of which I liked. So now we are in the "non-album EDM songs before Funk Wav Bounces Vol 3" era. Yes, this is an EDM song. And it has cool production from him. And Ellie Goulding sounds great. So yes, this is a great song. And I hope it does well and doesn't get fucked over.
Lastly, Benson Boone is back with his second upbeat track, this is called Sugar Sweet. I'd like this more if it were in another key, because he sounds really good and it has cool production. Not sure how this might do, but we shall see.
We lost I Guess It's Love, If We Ever Broke Up, the demo ballad of Flowers, Bite, Shut Me Up, and... Lost? OK FUCK YOU SHITS 1! This was supposed to be Linkin Park's big comeback single after the band was on hiatus for six years after the death of Chester Bennington, and once again, a great comeback song is fucked over by Shits 1 instead. I swear they hate me now, I complained on their IG about Here We Go Again and Feels This Good not being picked up last week but they removed my comment, and I complained more, and all comments were removed. So I guess they are trying to get on my fucking nerves by removing Lost as well as still not picking up the two aforementioned songs (Here We Go Again and Feels This Good). So once again, FUCK YOU SHITS 1. Goodbye great song, you will greatly be missed. And then I would have loved to see Bite and Shut Me Up debut, but it's fine compared to Lost, then the other three I don't care about.
Blurbs
Our exits were Golden Hour, Too Well, and Evangeline. Golden Hour has been here for a while, plus the other songs from him are better, so I'm fine with that going. I wish Evangeline had not left while it was growing on me, and I think Too Well also should have lasted longer.
I'm totally fine with Love Again dropping, it's not that great for his standards.
Boy's A Liar Part 2 jumping 8 spots? I'll take it!
I think it's time to move Heaven up to green. Really, I kept it in blue when there were not enough songs in something other than green in the bottom 10.
Could Escapism please stop jumping?
Ok, at least Creepin is now in the top 10 again. Please make the top 5 next week.
So... Flowers held the #1 due to Endless Summer Vacation being released. I just need something else at #1 next week.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
Can you submit for March Madness please? Im closing it on Friday. Thank you!
