When a #1 holds on due to an album being released makes sense (Week of 4/22/2023)
Hello everyone, and welcome to another countdown post. I've said this before, but I'm taking two weeks off as my family is leaving for Europe this coming Friday and we get back one week later, so I will be doing a catch up post from those two weeks that weekend. And the following week is my one year anniversary post. And I will be doing something special for that, including re-creating three old countdowns, one of those is for the week the countdown got shortened but if songs 45 through 31 were there. As for the other two, I will leave a comment down below as well as let everyone know via the discord (if you are on there). Let's get on with this week's countdown, here are the songs that left:

Up first is Favorite Song by Toosii. This is such a cool song. He has some great flow here and i like the production. I hope this does well here.
So it looks like Endless Summer Vacation is on track to be Miley Cyrus's most overrated album ever, as song #3 off it makes its way out of the abyss and on to the countdown. This is good, better than Flowers but not as good as River, which it replaces. It's just super forgettable, I can hardly remember how it goes. Maybe I'll form a full opinion while in Europe, who knows?
Next up, we have another song from Lewis Capaldi after his last two songs dropped out of Hitbound. It's another ballad, but it's definitely better than anything he put out in 2019 and 2020, even though Someone You Loved and Before You Go grew on me. Wish You The Best sounds a lot like Someone You Loved but in a different key. Weird side note, but earlier today, Em Beihold posted a video to her listening to LewCap play this for the first time, with caption "Way to hit us in the feels, Lewis" And that doesn't make me look at the song differently at all.
Lastly, we have a new Post Malone song called Chemical. I'm not totally feeling this one yet. He sounds really good here and I while like the production, it doesn't fit this song very well. Maybe this will grow on me, who knows?
Hitbound
Melanie Martinez- Void
The Weeknd/ Future- Double Fantasy (Debut)
Lauren Spencer-Smith/ Gayle/ Em Beihold- Fantasy
Kim Petras/ Nicki Minaj- Alone (Debut)
Raye/ Coi Leray- Flip A Switch (Debut)
Bazzi- Eyes
Fifty Fifty- Cupid (Debut)
Rita Ora/ Fatboy Slim- Praising You (Debut)
Drake- Search & Rescue
AJR- The Dumb Song (Debut)
XG- Left Right (Debut)
JP Saxe- I Don't Miss You
Dominic Fike- Dancing In The Courthouse (Debut)
Labrinth/ Billie Eilish- Never Felt So Alone
Maisie Peters- Lost The Breakup
Nicki Minaj- Red Ruby Da Sleeze
In a couple months, The Weeknd has a new documentary that I'm forgetting the title of, and as part of the soundtrack, he teamed up with Future on Double Fantasy. This is really good. It takes a while to get interesting, though, but overall, Metro Boomin and Mike Dean did a great job producing and both The Weeknd and Future do a great job vocally. I hope this is a hit.
By the looks of things, it seems that Kim Petras is trying to do a major follow up to Unholy, as today she brings us Alone with Nicki Minaj, and it samples Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay, which Play Hard by David Guetta, Ne Yo, and Akon, Alone by Trevor Daniel, El Incomprendido by Farruko, Victor Cardenas, and DJ Adoni, and recently Crying On The Dancefloor by Endless Summer and Violet Days, also sampled, all of these I liked. So I went into this with high expectations, and this did not meet them. It's more of a trap song with the Better Off Alone melody playing in the background, and it is in a key that Better Off Alone should not be sampled in. That's where my complaints end, because the production is actually kind of cool and Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj both sound great. I think this will grow on me.
Oh great. Another song off Raye's My 21st Century Blues album. Let's be honest. Just like Twinkle Twinkle Little Bitch was to 10 Things I Hate About You and Cinderella Snapped was to Victoria's Secret, Flip A Switch is a marked improvement over Escapism. It's in a key that makes more sense and the production also makes more sense. She also sounds better here than on Escapism, and I like Coi Leray's verse. Good job redeeming yourself, Raye.
Up next we have a random new Kpop group called Fifty Fifty with their song Cupid. This is super cool, but ultimately pretty forgettable. I do remember everyone sounding good and it having cool production, though.
Up next we have Praising You by Rita Ora and Fatboy Slim, and this samples Fatboy Slim's song Praise You. I want to like this more, but there's something about this that I'm not really feeling. I think Rita Ora sounds pretty good and Fatboy Slim did a good job producing, it's just forgettable. Will this debut? We shall see.
AJR is back with new music, this is called The Dumb Song. This definitely gives off the vibes of older AJR music, and I mean that as a good thing. Jack Met's vocals are solid per usual, and I like the production. Fun song that isn't all that dumb.
We had a random new Kpop group, now we have a random new Jpop group called XG with their song Left Right. Like Cupid by Fifty Fifty, this is interesting but forgettable. I do remember it being interesting though.
And lastly, Dominic Fike is back on Hits 1 for the second time. He had 3 Nights four years ago, and I really liked that song. This, however, is not as good, He sounded better on 3 Nights than he does here, just like other debuts from this week, it's forgettable. I need to listen more.
We lost Same Friends, Where Do You Go, Me, What A Time To Be Alive, and Baby Don't Hurt Me. I'd complain about the last one, but it is in the abyss, so hopefully, it debuts next week. I wish Same Friends had been more of a thing, it was really good. Good riddance to Where Do You Go, it was not good and I hope that after this, they realize that Jessie Murph won't actually become a thing. Me wasn't great for a big Kelly Clarkson comeback, both Blink 182 and Linkin Park had better comeback songs within the past year. And What A Time To Be Alive was good, but there were better songs off the album.
Blurbs
Our exits were Creepin, I'm In Love With You, River, and Happy. Creepin had a good run and will be missed, but I wish the other ones had lasted a bit longer, although Happy wasn't as great as the others and could return next week, who knows?
Guess Waffle House is on its way to being huge, and I'd love to see that.
As for why Sure Thing and Ceilings are jumping, I'm not sure, but one is pretty old and the other is pretty mediocre.
Ayo, That's Not How This Works is in the top 20, but ironically, that's how this song's run should work.
Ok good. Escapism and Flowers dropped hard. I hope these songs leave while I'm away.
Hmm... When will Eyes Closed be back in at least the top 10? I'd love to see that happen while I'm gone as well.
Woah. Love From The Other side jumped huge into the top 10. I hope it stays there while I'm away.
Special re-entered the top 10. Great to see.
In the top 10 for the first time is Die 4 Me. Maybe this enters the top 5 soon.
And 10:35 held on to #1 again, probably due to Tiesto the rapper dropping Drive the day before this countdown aired. And since Heaven is now at #2, odds are this will hit #1 while I'm away, and I won't be surprised if that happens.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys in a couple weeks when I get back.
Aside from the countdown from May 30th, 2020 (the week it got shortened), I will also be re-creating the countdowns for September 3rd, 2011 and November 11th, 2017
