One Year Anniversary post (Week of 5/13/2023)
Hello everyone, and wow, it's hard to believe I have been doing this for a whole year now, time goes by really quickly. To commemorate, I have recreated four different countdowns from over the years, these being from September 3rd, 2011, November 11th, 2017, the week the countdown got shortened but if it had 45 songs, and December 29th, 2012, as well as reviewing Illenium's self titled album. If you haven't checked any of these out, I highly encourage you to do so. Now on to this week's countdown, I've already covered the songs from when I was off earlier this week. Up first, Luke Combs literally covered Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, a song that has actually previously been covered by Jonas Blue and Dakota in 2015. That cover was better, but this one is pretty good. Luke Combs's country accent makes the song work really well and makes it feel like a country song rather than an R&B song. And it works. Good cover.
Just what the fuck we needed. We have yet another song off Harry Styles's album Harry's House one year after the album was released. This is called Satellite, and, of course, I would have preferred Bebe Rexha and Snoop Dogg's song of the same title from two months ago on here instead. Just like the other songs off Harry's House, it is quite bad. Surprised? So It is pretty slow here and is nothing I have any interest in listening to. I really hope this has very little success here, but since Music For A Sushi Restaurant got blocked, I like my chances.

Jonas Brothers- Summer Baby (Debut)
Ice Spice/ Nicki Minaj- Princess Diana

Lauren Spencer-Smith/ Gayle/ Em Beihold- Fantasy
Gayle- Don't Call Me Pretty (Debut)

David Kushner- Daylight
Drake- Search & Rescue
Our first debut comes from Pitbull and Lil Jon, this is called Jumpin. This is really good. I always like when Lil Jon screams random things in his songs, or when rappers scream in general, and this is no exception. Pitbull's flow on here is amazing as always, and I like the production here. I hope this is a hit.
The Jonas Brothers put out The Album yesterday, and from it, we have Summer Baby. This is pretty good, better than Wings but not as good as Waffle House. I like the production on this quite a bit, and both Nick Jonas and Joe Jones sound pretty good here. I have no doubts this will be huge.
Next up, we have a new song from Gayle called Don't Call Me Pretty. I usually like Gayle's music and this is no exception. She does a good job vocally here and I like the production on this, pop punk usually goes well with her voice. Good song.
So now we have Bakar making his first appearence on Hits 1, this is Hell N Back. This is kind of interesting, but I'm not totally sold on it yet. I like his flow and it has cool production, but it is in a key that probably won't go well with this production. This could definitely grow on me, who knows?
Lastly, we have two random newcomers named Coco Jones and Owen Cutts with their song ICU. I'm not sure how to feel about this. It's pretty slow for me but they both sound pretty good. I am also not sure where they even found this. Whatever.
We lost Bops and Left Right. I don't exactly remember how either of these go, so it's fine.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Happy and Void, neither of which were on here when I left for Europe, so they probably should have lasted a bit longer.
Favorite song grew on me this past week. That said, why did it fall back to #29?
At least Ceilings also dropped. We really don't need this on here.
Sure Thing also dropped, hopefully proving once and for all that old music getting popular belongs nowhere near the radio.
Why is Double Fantasy dropping this week?
Last Night got a slight rebound after dropping off its debut last week.
The best thing to happen this week is Baby Don't Hurt Me jumping huge into the top 20. I hope this is top 15 next week.
I really hope Lavender Haze is straight up gone next week.
That's Not How This Works is back in the top 10. That's great to see.
So we're still less than a year from when About Damn Time historically hit #1 (as a reminder, it was the first song by a black woman to hit #1 in 10 years and the first to do it solo in 14 years). And this week, Lottery by Latto and Lu Kala hit #1 for the first time, this being the first #1 for either artist. So we have gone from no black women hitting #1 in 10 years to three doing it in the past year. This is progress if you ask me. As for the song itself, it's not as good as it was when it first came out, and I also see this getting dethroned by either Love From The Other Side or Waffle House next week, both of which are better.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week
