#1 Recommendation For Hits 1 off the Spider Verse Soundtrack: TBD, I will update this after I get my review of the Spider Verse Soundtrack out
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1 elsewhere: IzyBeats/ Manuel Turizo/ Stefflon Don- Tu
Up First, Dua Lipa put out a song from the Barbie soundtrack called Dance The Night. This is pretty good. I think she sounds good here and I like the production here, but I'm not totally wowed by this yet. It has the potential to grow on me, though.
Next up is a new Lauren Spencer-Smith song that is lyrically different from everything else I heard from her. This is called That part, and it is about her boyfriend whom she has only been dating for a short period of time. I really like this. While this sounds a lot like Fingers Crossed musically, the lyrics are quite relatable for me, and she sounds good here. Easily my favorite song from her.
And lastly, we have Icandy making her countdown debut with Keep Dat. I don't think I ever talked about this in full, as it debuted when I was in Europe. This is an interesting rap song. She sounds pretty good here, sort of like Yung Miami from City Girls mixed with Megan Thee Stallion. It also has a good key productionwise. Great song.
Hitbound
Maroon 5- Middle Ground
The Weeknd/ Madonna/ Playboi Carti- Popular (Debut)
Jonas Brothers- Summer Baby
Ed Sheeran- A Beautiful Game (Debut)
Crash Adams- Lucky (Debut)
Ice Spice/ Nicki Minaj- Princess Diana
OneRepublic- Runaway
Lewis Capaldi- Haven't You Ever Been In Love Before
Towa Bird- Wild Heart (Debut)
Bakar- Hell N Back
The Chainsmokers/ Bludnymph- Self Destruction Mode (Debut)
Jimin/ Jvke/ Muni Long/ Kodak Black/ Nle Choppa- Angel Part 1
Presley Regier- Nevermind
Pitbull/ Lil Jon- Jumpin
This first debut comes from The Weeknd's upcoming show The Idol. It's by him, Madonna, and Playboi Carti, who makes his first appearance on Hits 1, and Madonna hasn't been on Hits 1 since she had a HB dropout called Give Me All Your Luvin in 2012, unless you count Mamacita by the Black Eyed Peas and Ozuna from 2020, which sampled a Madonna song. On to this, it really should have been better. Playboi Carti isn't on here for a super long time, it's mostly The Weeknd and Madonna. But all three of them sound fine when they are on, and it has somewhat cool production. Not entirely sold on certain melodies or the key, but it's cool.
Hmm... So four weeks after Ed Sheeran dropped Subtract, he dropped a song for the series finale of Ted Lasso, this is called A Beautiful game... and it's another ballad. He's done worse and better ballads, this falls into the middle. The production is more minimalistic, and I don't exactly remember anything else about it. That's all I have to say about it.
Crash Adams bring their second song to Hitbound, this is called Lucky. I'm liking this more than Give Me A Kiss. Whoever is singing sounds really good, and I like the cool production on here. Good follow up.
We now have someone named Towa Bird making her Hits 1 debut with her song Wild Heard. This is yet another example of "Where the fuck did Hits 1 even find this?" This is fine. It's pretty interesting, yet completely forgettable. I have forgotten most of what this sounds like, I need to hear this more.
Wait, what? Hits 1 actually picked up on a Chainsmokers song? This is a miracle! It calls for celebration! Anyways, the Chainsmokers are at work on their 5th album, and from it, we have the second single, Self Destruction Mode with someone named Bludnymph. Wow. This is really good. They did a really good job producing this, and both Drew Taggart and Bludnymph sound really good here, doing some on point melodies. I hope Hits 1 makes it the hit it was meant to be.
We lost ICU, Area Codes, Life Goes On, and Pretty Girl Era. I was never too sold on any of these, so it's fine.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Eyes Wide Shut, Never Ending Song, and Sure Thing. The only one of these I actually liked was Eyes Wide Shut, and I'd probably be madder if we did not have Self Destruction Mode on Hitbound, plus, it's in the abyss, so it could come back next week. Never Ending Song is also in the abyss, but I never liked it as much as EWS. Lastly, with Sure Thing leaving, I hope this proves once and for all that old songs blowing up on Tiktok belong nowhere near pop radio.
Favorite Song fell back to the bottom of the countdown. This is probably going to be gone next week.
I'm not sure why Daylight grew on me a shit ton, but it did. Probably because his voice is really interesting.
I thought Double Fantasy would rebound off its drop from last week, but it looks like this might be gone next week.
Thank God also looks like it's on its way out. It had a great run, so I'm not complaining too much.
Last Night is slowly but surely rebounding. Hopefully this is top 15 next week.
Why is Baby Don't Hurt Me dropping?
Cupid jumped 9 spots... I'm still not entirely sold on this yet, but it's cool.
Guess Heaven and Lottery are making their way out. Can't complain, both songs had good runs and hit #1.
Welp, Hits 1 switched to the Ice Spice remix of Karma. I thought Ice Spice knew better than to collaborate with Taylor Swift. And this is not the first time Taylor Swift has collaborated with rappers I like, she worked with Kendrick Lamar on Bad Blood and Future on Endgame. I thought Kendrick Lamar and Future knew better. Anyways, I really hope Love From The Other Side blocks this, or Waffle House can still hit #1.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week
