Cincinnati Pride edition (Week of 6/24/2023)
Hello everyone, welcome back to another countdown post. Sorry this is late, I was marching with the UC band in the Cincinnati Pride Parade yesterday, then I went back down later to meet up with a cousin of mine for a few hours, so I listened to the countdown pretty late, about 7pm. So first up, we have a new single from Doja Cat called Attention. This is pretty good, better than Charlie Puth's song of the same title but not as good as Omah Lay and Justin Bieber's song of the same title. It's kind of interesting and she sounds pretty good, I just need to listen to it some more.
Our other debut is the latest single off Fall Out Boy's album So Much For Stardust, this is called Hold Me Like A Grudge. This is your typical Fall Out Boy banger, and I mean that as a compliment. I like the production on this and Patrick Stump sounds good as always. Great song.
Hitbound

Doechii- What It Is

D4vd- Here With Me (Debut)
Kim Petras- Revelations (Debut)

Nicky Youre- Good Times Go
Havanna Winter- Tornado
Our first debut is yet another song off the Barbie soundtrack, it's from Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice and it's called Barbie World, and samples Barbie Girl by Aqua, hence why they are credited. I wanted to like this more, but it essentially has the same production style as Princess Diana rather than that of Barbie Girl, and it has the Barbie Girl melody over top of it, which does not exactly go well with this type of production. Both Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice do a good job here, so the song isn't exactly bad, I just don't fully enjoy it.
More Tai Verdes. Except more than 50% of the time, I like his music, such as AOK, Sheesh, Let's Go To Hell, She Luv Me, and this new song from him called Sandman. Yeah, I like this a decent bit. It has pretty cool melodies and I like the production. I wonder if this samples the same song that Mother by Meghan Trainor sampled, which is called Mr Sandman. It would be interesting to know.
So a couple weeks after Niall Horan dropped The Show, we get another song off it called Science. Do you guys remember his song Put A Little Love On Me from late 2019/ early 2020? I ask because this new song is essentially Put A Little Love On Me part 2 as it has the exact same key and the exact same tempo as that song. But I liked that song, and I like this too. Although it is a bit slow, Niall Horan sounds good and the I like the key it is in. So better choice than If You Leave Me.
So next up, we have Jelly Roll making his first appearance on Hits 1 with his song Need A Favor. I've heard the name pop up a few times on the Discord but was never exactly sure who he was. And this new song is really cool. He has a really good voice, sounding a lot like a cross between Morgan Wallen and Chris Stapleton here, and the production is super cool. I guess I have a better first impression of him than everyone else on here.
Back to back artists whose names have been trending for a while but have not appeared on Hits 1. Interesting. Anyways, D4vd makes his Hits 1 debut with Here With Me, which apparently came out in November 2022 and was somewhat of a thing earlier this year, but Hits 1 is just now picking it up. Anyways, on to the song itself, it's fine, but definitely nowhere near as good as Marshmello and Chvrches' song of the same title from four years ago. It's moderately slow, but D4vd sounds pretty good. I'd say overall, I'll take this.
Lastly, Kim Petras put out a new album a couple days ago, and from it, we have revelations. This is interesting but pretty forgettable. In fact, the only thing I remember about it was that the production was EDM type. I think she also sounded pretty good, I'll need to listen to it more. I'm probably not going to listen to it, as I have to listen to Young Thug's new album from last week, which a review of will be out sometime this week.
We lost If You Leave Me, Jumpin, Iykyk, Home To Another One and Pink Pantheress's Angel. If You Leave Me was replaced by Science, and I'd call that a W for the most part. I wish Jumpin and Iykyk had a shot at the countdown, so I'm sad that those are gone. And Home To Another One and Angel were just good, so I'm fine with those leaving.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Trustfall and Meltdown. Guys. Those don't make any sense leaving this week. Trustfall debuted at #13 last week, and I assure you that if it were Cruel Summer in the #13 position last week, they wouldn't have dropped it this week, in fact they would have had it jump a few spots, so why not treat a significantly less overrated song the same? And while Meltdown jumped five spots last week and was on for seven weeks, it is gone this week instead of Heaven, which dropped 11 spots last week and debuted 10 weeks before Meltdown did. Please don't make next week's exits as confusing, Hits 1.
Shockingly, Popular dropped four spots off its jump last week. This has grown on me the past week, so hopefully it rebounds.
Looks like Happy is actually doing something, so third time's the charm there.
Both Runaway and Keep Dat got big jumps into the top 15. Great for both songs.
Cupid fell out of the top 10. Couldn't care less about how this does.
I feel like Jaded is starting to fade on me, so maybe it shouldn't be at #7. Just a thought.
Hopefully, Give Me A Kiss enters the top 5 next week.
Ugh. Karma is continuing to block Waffle House for the #1 spot. But two weeks from now marks one year since Sunroof miraculously dethroned Ass It Was, and if Waffle House actually hit #1 one week after Sunroof first did, that would be something.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
Y'all should be happy as a clam because calling is on hitbound rn.
