What actually happened (Week of 7/8/2023)
Hello everyone, welcome back to another countdown post. This week was not the weirdest week in countdown history (yesterday, Daniel and a few others made up a completely weird countdown for this week that had Daylight jump 20 spots to #1 as a way of trolling other people). I'd say this week was pretty normal. Here are our actual exits:
Lewis Capaldi- Wish You The Best (#10 last week)

My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Justin Wellington/ Small Jam- Iko Iko
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Jax Jones/ Fireboy Dml- Me & My Guitar
So first up, we have Olivia Rodrigo's first song since Sour was released, this is called Vampire. I'd like to point out that Daniel had this debuting at #6 while it actually debuted at #29. Anyways, this is really good. It starts off pretty slow but evolves a lot as it goes on, almost to the point that the second half of the song sounds somewhat like In My Blood by Shawn Mendes from 2018, which I liked. And Olivia Rodrigo sounds amazing throughout. As much as I want this to do well, I'm praying it doesn't jump all the way up to #1 next week.
This next one is going to be fun to talk about. It's Jumpin by Pitbull and Lil Jon. H o l y c r a p. This is a party anthem right here. The production is extremely cool and Pitbull does amazing verses per usual, and Lil Jon's screaming adds quite a bit to the song in a good way. This should be a huge hit.
On the topic of cool party anthems, next up, we have What A Night by Flo Rida. This is also pretty fun. He sounds amazing throughout and I like the production on this, though not as much as that of Jumpin. Cool song, glad he's getting hits again.

Doechii- What It Is
Hey, only two debuts this week. Makes my job easier. So first up, Fall Out Boy semi covered We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel, and I say semi covered because they changed up the verses to include everything that happened in the world since the original was released, but left the chorus the same. And this was executed flawlessly. Patrick Stump sounds really good and I like the random lists of things that happened from 1989 to now. Super cool.
Our other debut is a pretty strange collab, it's from TXT and the Jonas Brothers and it's called Do It Like That. Gonna be honest, this turned out better than I thought it would. Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas have surprisingly good chemistry with the TXT guys and the production is cool. So yeah, better than I was anticipating.
We lost Revelations and Science. As much as I liked these, I don't think they were singles, so they are probably better off out.
Blurbs:
Our real exits were Wish You The Best, Mourning, and Keep Dat. Wish You The Best was never that great, so I'm fine with that leaving. Mourning deserved better, and Keep Dat is the only exit on both the real countdown and the fake countdown.
Is Attention ever going to do anything on the real countdown? (For reference, it left the fake countdown)
Mona Lisa got a nice jump off its debut. But unlike in the fake countdown, where it supposedly jumped 20 spots into the top 10, it only jumped four spots.
Rather than even jumping at all, Daylight fell back three spots. If this actually jumped 20 spots to #1, I would not have minded, though.
Last Night's second chance is going well so far, compared to it leaving the fake countdown.
Hold Me Like A Grudge, Snooze, and Summer Baby all hit the top 20 this week. I'm fine with all of those except for Snooze.
Good. Satellite is out of the top 10. Good. Get the fuck out of here soon.
Runaway and Popular both jumped into the top 10. Yes on both of them.
Give Me A Kiss finally hit the top 5. I'd like this to hit #1 soon before Vampire gets there.
On the topic of #1, we have a new one, Waffle House by the Jonas Brothers. YES! Feels so good that Karma is no longer #1, and its tenure at #1 felt pretty long even if it was just 4 weeks. Also, weird side note, but Waffle House dethroned Karma one year after Sunroof dethroned Ass It Was. So I guess we will continue getting good new #1s the first week after the 4th of July every year from now on, if it happened twice in a row.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week
