So first up, Stand By Me by Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen actually debuted the countdown. Wow. I like this a lot more than their previous collab Broadway Girls, which was also pretty good. Both Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen do a good job here and I like the production here. I cannot stress enough how much I want this to be a huge hit here.
I was expecting this next debut to be a lot higher. So it's Zayn's first song in five years and it's called Love Like This. I like some of his other songs better, but this is pretty good. He sounds pretty good and I like the production here, but there's something that makes it not that great. But it's fine.
So something weird happened with this next debut. Debuting at #26 was We Didn't Start The Fire by Fall Out Boy, at least that's what Spyder said, but they accidentally played Hold Me Like A Grudge instead, which left this week. Weird. Anyways, Fall Out Boy covered We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel but using events that happened from 1989 to 2023. And this was executed flawlessly. I like how Patrick Stump makes random lists of events from the past 34 years and he sounds great too. Amazing concept, flawless execution.
Lastly, we have what I presume to be HrishK's least favorite debut, Do It Like That by TXT and the Jonas Brothers. I personally don't mind this, in fact, it's grown on me since a couple weeks ago. Everyone singing sounds pretty good and it has cool production. Interesting collab.
Hitbound:
Fifty Fifty/ Kaliii- Barbie Dreams
Post Malone- Enough Is Enough (Debut)
Tori Kelly- Cut (Debut)
Busted/ Jonas Brothers- Year 3000 2.0 (Debut)
Crash Adams- Sugar Mommy
Diplo/ Jessie Murph/ Polo G- Heartbroken
Noah Kahan/ Post Malone- Dial Drunk
Charlie On A Friday- I'm Not Crazy
Charli Xcx- Speed Drive (Debut)
New Jeans- Super Shy
Travis Scott/ The Weeknd/ Bad Bunny- Kpop (Debut)
Teddy Swims- Lose Control
Presley Regier- Fly (Debut)
Will.i.am/ Britney Spears- Mind Your Business
Jelly Roll- Need A Favor
Yesterday, Post Malone dropped his new album Austin, and from it we have Enough Is Enough. Yeah, he's done better before (Disclaimer: I'm referring to the song that debuted HB, I haven't listened to the album yet). Anyways, he sounds fine but it feels a bit boring to me. I hope the rest of the album is better than this despite having no guest appearances.
Yesterday, Tori Kelly dropped a new EP, and from it we have Cut. I'm liking this one a lot more than her song Missin U from earlier this year. It's in Bb major, the key I'm pretty much guaranteed to like songs in at this point, and she sounds really good. Also, I heard she was recently hospitalized, and I'm hoping she gets better soon.
So I'm familiar with a few older Jonas Brothers songs, including Year 3000. But something I never knew about that song was that it was a cover. That's right, the original was by UK based boy band Busted, and they have been around for about 20 years now, so they are re-recording some classic songs of theirs for their 20th anniversary, and with Year 3000, they got none other than the Jonas Brothers themselves on. So how is this new version? Pretty good, ngl. I liked the Jonas Brothers' old cover quite a bit, so this is also pretty good. The guys from Busted, as well as Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas, all sound pretty good and I like how it pays more homage to the original than the JoBros cover (I looked on Wikipedia and saw that the Jobros changed some of the lyrics for their cover). So interesting concept, and flawless execution.
So how many songs off the Barbie soundtrack have they picked up on? Well, we previously had Dance The Night, Angel, Barbie World, Barbie Dreams, What Was I Made For, and now Speed Drive by Charli Xcx. If I'm missing any other songs off the Barbie soundtrack that they picked up on, please let me know. Anyways, this is alright, very forgettable though. I did see it sampled something else, plus I do remember it being good. I'm not going to waste any more time talking about this because of better things I could be talking about...
And here are those better things. Yesterday, Travis Scott finally dropped his long awaited album Utopia, which he had been teasing for at least three years now. He dropped the lead single Kpop with The Weeknd and Bad Bunny last week, and that now makes its way on to Hitbound. I usually like Travis Scott's music, and this is no exception. He does a pretty good job here, and I like the verses from The Weeknd and Bad Bunny (who finally makes his Hits 1 debut with this song, btw). I'm glad this is here, and I will be reviewing Utopia here, but it probably won't be for another week as I have final exams at the end of the week.
And lastly, does anyone remember Nevermind by Presley Regier from earlier this year? I don't blame you if you don't, because I don't either. Well, he has a new song on here called Fly. I remember Nevermind being good at best, and I think this new song is just good at best too. He sounds fine, but I'm forgetting what this even sounds like. I just hope they don't treat him like Jessie Murph or Havanna Winter in the future.
We lost Padam Padam, Here With Me, Dead To Me, Rush, and What The Hell. Padam Padam is in the abyss, so hopefully it debuts next week. Here With Me was pretty good but not that great, so I'm fine with that leaving. Dead To Me and Rush should have gotten a chance to debut, and What The Hell probably wasn't even a real song, so I'm not sure what the purpose of having it on was if it was just going to leave a week later. Oh well, at least it was good though.
Blurbs
Our exits were Void, I'm In Love With You, Hold Me Like A Grudge (as previously mentioned), and What A Night. Void was never that great, and it's probably gone for good this time. I'm In Love With You had been on here for a pretty long time and had a great run, so I'm fine with that going. Hold Me Like A Grudge and What A Night probably should have lasted a lot longer, though, but they will probably be back.
Did Hits 1 intentionally have Seven jump seven spots off its debut due to its title?
Mona Lisa jumped 8 spots to #17. Good to see, and if the fake countdown from a few weeks ago actually happened, this song would be rebounding.
What It Is made a big jump into the top 15. Glad this is becoming a hit.
Super surprised Vampire still hasn't made the top 5. But I'm not complaining too much though.
Chemical is probably on its way out. But it had a good run, plus Mourning is a lot better.
And speaking of Mourning, it found its way into the top 10. Hopefully, it makes top 5 next week.
Ugh. Why did Satellite hit #6? That makes no fucking sense.
Cupid is in the top 5 now. Not sure who would want this as it's fading on a bunch of people, and you may have noticed I moved it down a tier a few weeks ago.
Why the actual FUCK is Cruel Summer at #2? Seriously! Just get rid of this already!
But we have a new #1 that I sort of saw coming, Give Me A Kiss by Crash Adams. Yes!!! Similar to with Sunroof, when I first heard it, I did not think it would be this huge, so I was kind of surprised when this got success. But I'm glad this is #1 as it is a really great song. I really think these guys should be a thing elsewhere now that they have hit #1 here on Hits 1. I also really hope this holds off Cruel Summer, because that does not deserve to be #1 at all.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
