My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Justin Wellington/ Small Jam- Iko Iko
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Usher/ Summer Walker/ 21 Savage- Good Good
So the longest time between when a song first debuts HB and when it debuts the countdown has officially been broken In The Stars by Benson Boone first debuted HB 15 months ago but dropped out two weeks later, then re-entered earlier this year, and is finally on the countdown. And this is really good. While another ballad, it evolves well and Benson Boone sounds amazing throughout. Also, an interesting fact, but this is his first countdown entry since Ghost Town almost two years ago.
On the topic of artists who haven't been on the countdown in a hot minute, next up, we have Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan and Post Malone. Noah Kahan's only previous countdown appearance was Hurt Somebody with Julia Michaels in 2018, which I really liked. And this new song is also really good. They both do an amazing jobe here and it has super cool folk type production. I hope this is a hit.
Lastly, Hold Me Like A Grudge "re-entered," and I put that in quotes as they accidentally played that instead of We Didn't Start The Fire last week.
Hitbound
Teddy Swims- Lose Control
New Jeans- Super Shy
Diplo/ Jessie Murph/ Polo G- Heartbroken
Lauv- Love U Like That (Debut)
Max/ Jvke/ Bazzi- Strings (Debut)
Will.i.am/ Britney Sears- Mind Your Business
Post Malone- Enough Is Enough
Charlie On A Friday- I'm Not Crazy
Tori Kelly- Cut
Crash Adams- Sugar Mommy
Doja Cat- Paint The Town Red (Debut)
Jelly Roll- Need A Favor
Fifty Fifty/ Kaliii- Barbie Dreams
Bebe Rexha/ David Guetta- One In A Million (Debut)
Travis Scott/ The Weeknd/ Bad Bunny- Kpop
Charli Xcx- Speed Drive
Only four debuts this week. Makes my life easier. First up is Lauv's new song Love U Like That. This is really good, probably my favorite Lauv song so far. It's upbeat and in my happy key of Bb major, and he sounds really good. Glad this is here.
Hmm... I feel like a song from Max, Jvke, and Bazzi could have been better than their new collab, Strings. This is only decent at best. It's moderately slow and it's hard to tell who's singing each part because they all sound really similar here. I know all three have better songs.
This next song from Doja Cat has gotten a decent amount of hype from people over the past couple of weeks. It's called Paint The Town Red, and it's pretty good. She does a pretty good job here but I feel like it uses the same format Attention uses. I think this one will grow on me though.
And lastly, if you thought David Guetta ran out of ideas for 100% original songs and resorted to sampling older songs in his songs, it seems like he has even run out of ideas of songs to sample, so he is resorting to sampling his own older hits. This is the case with his new song with Bebe Rexha called One In A Million, and this samples his song When Love Takes Over, which propelled him to mainstream fame in 2009. And this new song is really good. I don't think I've ever heard When Love Takes Over, so I'm not sure how the new song samples it. Regardless, just like I'm Good from last year, David Guetta did an amazing job producing and Bebe Rexha sounds good here. I hope this is a huge hit.
We lost Year 3000 2.0 and Fly. Year 3000 seems to be in the abyss, so I hope that debuts in the coming weeks, and I was never too sold on Fly.
Blurbs
Our exits were Chemical, Love Like This, and Attention. Chemical had a good run, but Mourning is a lot better. I don't think Love Like This is gone for good as it's Zayn's first song in a long time. And Attention never really took off, just staying at #30 for most of its run.
Shocked that Do It Like That dropped seven spots. I feel like this is going to rebound next week though.
Yes! Stand By Me jumped four spots off it's debut!
It looks like Barbie World is finally starting to do something. Watch it leave next week though.
Fast Car is probably on its way out. I can't decide if this is fading on me or not, but for now, it isn't.
Jaded looks like it's on its way out too. I'm better off without this one though.
Ayy nice to see We Didn't Start The Fire jumping all the way to #11. Glad this is a hit.
What It Is has cracked the top 10. Didn't fully expect that, but I'm happy with that.
I was expecting Vampire to make the top 10 this week, though. I feel like it's only a matter of time before this hits #1.
And speaking of #1, Give Me A Kiss held off Cruel Summer again this week. I'd rather this get dethroned by Vampire or Dance The Night rather than Cruel Summer, because if Cruel Summer hits #1, there will be a rant typed in all caps, in bold, and italicized. You have been warned.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
