Can I take anything here? (Week of 10/14/2023)
Hello everyone, welcome back to another countdown post. The three thing that could have possibly ruined UC Homecoming weekend are: UC football team losing a fourth consecutive game, completely unexpected rain during the second half, and Used To Be Young holding on to #1. And guess what? All three of those happened. But this week was not entirely bad. We had some good debuts and decent jumps. Here are the songs that left, literally both of which debuted last week:
Jungkook/ Jack Harlow- 3D (#27 last week)
Nsync- Better Place (#25 last week)

Countdown Extra: Kenya Grace- Strangers
Last Year's #1: Charlie Puth/ Jungkook- Left And Right
#1 Two Years Ago: The Kid Laroi/ Justin Bieber- Stay
My Favorite Song Last Year: David Guetta/ Bebe Rexha- I'm Good
My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Drake/ Future/ Young Thug- Way 2 Sexy
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Zion & Lennox/ Wisin- Ahora
Up first, we have American Town by Ed Sheeran. Gonna be honest, this has grown on me since last week. It gives off the same vibes of 2 Step from last year, and I mean this as a compliment. I hope this is somewhat huge.
Finally, Need A Favor by Jelly Roll made its way out of the abyss coming in at #22. I still find this one really good. He has such an amazing voice for this type of song. The melodies here are also really good. Not sure why this is getting any hate.
Hitbound
AJR- Yes I'm A Mess
Jason Derulo/ Meghan Trainor- Hands On Me (Debut)
Travis Scott- I Know
Jenna Raine- It Is What It Is (Debut)
Claire Rosinkranz- Swinging At The Stars (Debut)
Lany- XXL (Debut)
Troye Sivan- Got Me Started (Debut)
Jxdn- Chrome Hearted
Maneskin- Honey
Henry Moodie- Pick Up The Phone
Knox- Not The 1975
Presley Regier- Have Your Way
Ice Spice/ Rema- Pretty Girl (Debut)
Kenya Grace- Strangers
The Rose- Back To Me
Loud Luxury/ Two Friends/ Bebe Rexha- If Only I
So up first, we have this. It's called Hands On Me by Jason Derulo and Meghan Trainor, and it samples Stand By Me by Ben E King from 1961, in essentially the same way Betty by Yung Gravy samples Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. And this all works. The sample is executed pretty well and Jason Derulo and Meghan Trainor have really good chemistry. I want this to be a hit.
Oh great. We have to talk about these next two songs next. We have someone named Jenna Raine up next with her song It Is What It Is. This is neither good nor bad, it's really just there. She sounds fine, but this is a bit too forgettable. So, all right.
What the fuck? We have yet another goddamn Claire Rosinkranz song instead of an actual hit like Dientes by J Balvin, Usher, and DJ Khaled? God, I don't know anymore. Anyways, Claire Rosinkranz only had one hit, that was Backyard Boy in 2020... and it dropped out of Hitbound? So why the fuck they are continuing to pick up on her music three years later baffles me. And Swinging At The Stars is complete mediocracy. It's a bit too weird. Good luck getting this to debut, because it won't.
On a much better note, we have the band Lany making their Hits 1 debut with XXL. This is quite good. Whoever is singing sounds really good and I like the production here. I'm glad they picked up on this.
Next up, we have another new Troye Sivan song after Rush dropped out of Hitbound earlier this year, this is called Got Me Started. I'm also liking this one. He sounds really good and this has extremely cool production, it feels like a cross between Lost Frequencies and Regard production jobs. That drop is also pretty cool. I hope this is a hit.
And we're finishing this off with a song Ice Spice performed on SNL last night (since this is a day late, I have already seen that episode), this is Pretty Girl with Rema. This interesting blend of genres is pretty cool. Rema does an amazing hook and Ice Spice's verses are also super on point. Glad tis is here.
We lost I Remember Everything, Mosquito, Breadcrumbs, Hotter Now, and Just A Friend. Of these, Hotter Now was the only one I even slightly cared about, and Just A Friend was starting to get somewhat annoying.
Blurbs
Our exits were 3D and Better Place, I'm not going to say anything in case these end up coming back next week, but I'm going to say they should come back next week.
Speed Drive took a hard hit down to #29. I'm not too sold on it, so it's all right.
Jeez, why was the most mediocre debut from last week the only one that jumped this week?
At least Last Time I Saw You rebounded.
I'm super happy Lil Boo Thang is finally doing something.
Is Snooze ever going to leave?
Glad to see Lose Control at #11. I hope this is top 10 next week...
...replacing What Was I Made For, which has no business there whatsoever.
Ayy let's go. Greedy jumped huge into the top 10. I hope its success continues.
Popular is now at #2. As much as this has faded on me, it would be interesting to see all three of them hit #1.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
