Everyone could just do everything (Week of 11/4/2023)

Hello everyone, welcome back to another countdown post. Sorry this is so late, I had band things on Saturday and went back to Columbus immediately after, where I had no time to listen to the countdown until I got back to Cincinnati. So it was an interesting countdown. We had some pretty good jumps and a few questionable ones too. Let's just get into it, here are the songs that left:

My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Drake/ Future/ Young Thug- Way 2 Sexy
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Marshmello/ Anuel- Alcohol

So first up, Alec Benjamin makes his return to the countdown with Different Kind of Beautiful. This is pretty good but ultimately super forgettable He sounds pretty good here but that's all I can remember about it. Unlike...

Is it just me, or are Taylor Swift's re-recorded albums just getting more and more overrated? So from 1989 Taylor's version, we have Is It Over Now. And it looks as though this has debuted at #1 on the Hot 100. Goody. And yes, the title of the song is the same question I was wondering while listening to this. It's yet another completely overrated Taylor Swift song that I have no interest in ever hearing if I don't have to. Next!

I think we remember Tyla from her song Been Thinking from earlier this year. I quite liked that song and today, she brings us a song that's been going viral on Tiktok as of lately called Water. This is pretty good, but not quite as good as Been Thinking. It gives off somewhat of a different vibe, but really, I need to listen to it more.

Hitbound:
Jxdn- Chrome Hearted
Olivia Rodrigo- Can't Catch Me Now (Debut)
Neiked/ Ayra Starr- You're Hired (Debut)
Niall Horan/ Lizzy McAlpine- You Should Start A Cult
Matt Hansen- Something To Remember (Debut)
Jenna Raine- It Is What It Is
Jungkook- Standing Next To You (Debut)
Blink 182- Fell In Love
Henry Moodie- Pick Up The Phone
Mansionz- Optionz (Debut)
Elle Darlington- Wish You Would
Maneskin- Honey
Pitbull/ Nile Rodgers- Freak 54 (Debut)
Lily Meola- Without You
Cash Cash/ Taylor Daine- Tell It To My Heart
The Rose- Back To Me

First up, Olivia Rodrigo put out a new song for the upcoming Hunger Games movie called Can't Catch Me Now. I still have yet to listen to Guts, but I'll take the three songs I have heard from it over this. It's very slow with a guitar line that makes me think Billie Eilish could have pulled this off better. Olivia Rodrigo still sounds pretty good, I just wish it was more upbeat.

I think we remember Neiked from Better Days with Mae Muller and Polo G from a couple years ago. Today, they bring us You're Hired with Afropop singer Ayra Starr. I might actually like this more than Better Days. Neiked did a really cool job producing this and Ayra Starr sounds really good here. I hope this can become a hit.

So next up, we have something Waffle's going to hate, it's Something To Remember by Matt Hansen. This is a guilty pleasure for me, but I find this pretty good. It starts off slow but evolves a lot as it goes on. Matt Hansen also sounds pretty good on this, honestly like a cross between Lewis Capaldi and David Kushner. I'm more than fine with this on here.

Yesterday, Jungkook put out his debut solo album Golden, and from it, we have Standing Next To You. This is good, but I'm not really liking it as much as I do Seven, 3D, or especially Too Much. The retro type production makes the hook on this feel like a retro version of Crazy In Love by Beyonce and Jay Z. Interesting connection, interesting song.

If you don't know, Blackbear and Mike Posner formed a duo called Mansionz in 2017 and put out their self titled album later that year, and we haven't heard from them as a group until last week, when they put out a sequel to their 2017 album, and from their new album, we have Optionz. And this is just what you would expect from these two. The production slaps hard on this and they both sound really good. I really hope this is a huge hit.

Lastly, Pitbull and Nile Rodgers team up on Freak 54, and this samples Le Freak by Chic. Like Jumpin from earlier this year, I really like this. The sample is executed flawlessly and not in an overly distracting way, and his flow is on point throughout. I'd like to see this on the countdown.

We lost Not The 1975, XXL, Lethal Woman, and One Of Your Girls. The first two are in the abyss, so hopefully, they debut next week, and I couldn't care less about the other two.

Blurbs:
Our exits were What Was I Made For, Popular, and Hold Me Like A Grudge. Good riddance to What Was I Made For, it should not have made the top 10 at all, and Popular and Hold Me Like A Grudge were both fading on me, so I'd call the exits this week a W.

Think Of Us is now the Chainsmokers' first song to last two weeks on the countdown in almost two years. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Super glad Pretty Girl jumped four spots.

Even better to see Too Much aka Jiggle Jiggle Part 2 jumping off its debut.

Yes! Good Good finally cracked the top 20! Hopefully the upward momentum continues.

What I'm not happy about is Heartbroken being in the top 20. We don't need this shit here.

Glad Lose Control is continuing to rebound.

Nice. Lil Boo Thang is now in the top 10. If this actually hits #1, I'm going to be super happy.

Why did We Didn't Start The Fire fall 3 spots? This should have hit #1 this week.

At least Greedy is still good though.

I guess that des it for me this week, see you guys next week.
