I talked about all four of this week's debuts last week. First up is Wild Ones by Jessie Murph and Jelly Roll. This actually came out a few weeks ago, but it's fine. I was interested to see how this would turn out, but it's more what you'd expect from Jessie Murph. It's moderately slow and not in a key I usually revisit songs in, but Jelly Roll's verse is quite good. Overall, I prefer Flo Rida and Sia's song of the same title from 2012.
Next up, we have my new favorite song on here, Lovin On Me by Jack Harlow. Here, he uses the same formula he used for First Class last year. Here's what I mean: Remember how First Class sampled Glamourous by Fergie and Ludacris in its hook? Well, in this new song, he sampled Whatever by Cadillac Dale, a song from 1995 that I've never heard of, in the hook. So if you're an OG viewer of this blog, you may remember I liked First Class a decent bit, and I really like this one too. The production is super cool, Jack Harlow's flow is on point throughout, and the sample was executed flawlessly. I hope this is as huge as First Class was.
Up next, we have our second super interesting collab to talk about, Strong Enough by the Jonas Brothers and Bailey Zimmerman. I was interested to see how this would turn out, and it turned out quite good. Bailey Zimmerman has surprisingly good chemistry with both Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas and the production is pretty good here. Glad this exists.
Finally, debuting all the way up at #11 for whatever reason, we have Houdini by Dua Lipa, which I actually heard during the UC/ West Virginia game this past weekend. I was moderately surprised by that but super happy, because this is a great song. I like the dark vibe of this and the production courtesy of Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, and Dua Lipa sounds great here per usual. I hope this makes the top 10 next week.
Hitbound:
Lily Meola- Without You
Dominic Fike- Mama's Boy (Debut)
Neiked/ Ayra Starr- You're Hired
Noah Kahan- Stick Season (Debut)
Thirty Seconds To Mars- Seasons (Debut)
Pink Pantheress/ Central Cee- Nice To Meet You
Mitski- My Love Mine All Mine (Debut)
AJR- Touchy Feely Fool
The Kid Laroi- Bleed
Tate Mcrae- Exes (Debut)
Jungkook- Standing Next To You
Pitbull/ Nile Rodgers- Freak 54
Henry Moodie- Pick Up The Phone
Henry Moodie- Pick Up The Phone
Elle Darlington- Wish You Would
Matt Hansen- Something To Remember
Petit Biscuit/ AJ- You Don't Ignore (Debut)
So we're starting off with two songs that probably should have been picked up on previously. First up, we have Mama's Boy by Dominic Fike, and this is quite good. The beat is super cool and it is in a key that works quite well with it, and Dominic Fike sounds great per usual. I'm fine with this being here.
This next song is apparently one year old, from Noah Kahan's most recent album and it's called Stick Season. Ok this might be my favorite Noah Kahan song thus far. The production is super cool, I like how it evolves into somewhat sounding like that of Can't Stop Us Now by Pitbull and Zac Brown from last year, and I also like the banjo solo in the middle of it, and Noah Kahan sounds great here throughout. Glad this is here.
Finally, something somewhat recent. This is from Thirty Seconds To Mars and it's called Seasons. This is also super cool. The production on this is super fun and Jared Leto sounds really good here. I hope they make this a hit, because Jared Leto did not climb the Empire State Building for nothing.
We have another indie song up next, this is My Love Mine All Mine by Mitski. And this is just not good. This sounds like a jazz ballad mixed with a Lana Del Rey song and just feels too much like it's out of its era and Mitski sounds like a cross between Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, and Dove Cameron, and not in a good way, and that's saying something since I usually like Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, and Dove Cameron's voices. I don't want this on the countdown at all.
Thankfully, it gets better, because up next, we have Tate Mcrae's new song Exes, which she shockingly did not play on SNL this past weekend, but is now here. Guys, this might be my favorite solo song from her. Trap production. Key of G minor. Amazing melodies. Combine these with Tate Mcrae sounding great per usual, you have one hell of a fucking banger. I hope they make this a hit like they did with Greedy.
And lastly, we have something that I will forever have no clue where they found it. This is You Don't Ignore by Petit Biscuit and AJ. This is interesting. The retro production from AJ is pretty cool and Petit Biscuit sounds pretty good. Nothing I plan on coming back to, though.
We lost Honey and Can't Catch Me Now. I'm pretty sure both of these are in the abyss, so I'm not going to say anything yet.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Cruel Summer (finally), We Didn't Start The Fire, Snooze (finally), and Pretty Girl. I'm glad Cruel Summer is finally gone, it did not deserve to be resurrected by Tiktok at all, especially during an era when Taylor Swift stanning is completely out of hand, and Snooze lasted way too long on here and was starting to get super annoying, so both of these leaving is a W, especially since they were replaced by Strong Enough and Lovin On Me. I do wish that We Didn't Start The Fire had dropped before leaving and that Pretty Girl had lasted a lot longer, however.
I can't decide if Different Kind Of Beautiful is fading on me or not, I guess that was a reaction to me hearing it immediately after Lovin On Me.
Ayy, Too Much is now in the top 20. Let's go!
Yeah, Single Soon is definitely fading on me a lot. Don't be surprised if this moves down to red in the coming weeks.
Jesus Fucking Christ, haven't we had enough Taylor Swift already? Is It Over Now deserves to be nowhere near the top 10, especially on only its third week.
Lose Control at #3? I'll take it. It would be interesting if this actually hit #1, which I now hope it does before Is It Over Now gets there.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
