21st Birthday edition (Week of 12/2/2023)

Hello everyone, welcome back to another countdown post. I turn 21 today, and I definitely have plans for that later today. Earlier this week, I put out my worst list for 2023, so if you haven't seen that yet, you should check that out. Also, I have a confession: If you noticed something suspicious about HB in last week's post, it was not what actually happened. Daniel and I were pulling a prank on the server, I'll update last week's post with the real HB later today. No exits this week, let's just get into it.

No exits means no debuts, let's move on.

Hitbound:
Mitski- My Love Mine All Mine
Pink Pantheress/ Central Cee- Nice To Meet You
Lany- XXL (Re-entry)
Bruce Melodie/ Shaggy- When She's Around (Debut)
Noah Kahan/ Gracie Abrams- Everywhere, Everything (Debut)
Pitbull/ Nile Rodgers- Freak 54
AJR- Touchy Feely Fool
The Kid Laroi- Bleed
Neiked/ Ayra Starr- You're Hired
Beyonce- My House (Debut)
Dove Cameron- White Glove (Debut)
Dominic Fike- Mama's Boy
Henry Moodie- Pick Up The Phone
Jungkook- Standing Next To You
Patrick Martin- Dandelion Eyes (Re-entry)
Petit Biscuit/ AJ- You Don't Ignore

So we have re-entries from XXL by Lany and, um... Dandelion Eyes by Patrick Martin? I'm way too confused about the second one, I have no idea why Mikey Piff would bring it back 8 months later, but I'm happy to see XXL back.

Ok, on to debuts. First up, we have this. It's When She's Around by Bruce Melodie and Shaggy, who last appeared on here 3.5 years ago with Banana. On to this song, this is so good. It's super catchy and they both sound really good here. I also kind of like the "drop" after the chorus. I'm praying they let this on to the countdown.

So lately, Noah Kahan has been remixing songs off his recent album with other artists, and yesterday, he did it again. This is Everywhere, Everything with Gracie Abrams (not to be confused with the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once). And this is also pretty good. Both of them sound pretty good and while I find this slower than some of the other Noah Kahan songs I've heard, the production is still solid. He's the musical guest on SNL tonight, so I hope he performs it there.

Now here's where things start to get extremely questionable. Up next, we have a new Beyonce song called My House, and I don't like this one at all. In this song, it seems like she's trying to do drill here, and no, she can't do drill at all. The production is also fairly messy at the beginning, and halfway through, there's a beat switch, and the only time a beat switch was ever pulled off well was in Stargazing by Travis Scott from 2019. This also feels too fucking long for what it is. I hope this flops hard.

Lastly, Dove Cameron put out a new album yesterday, and from it, we have White Glove. This is pretty good. It's like a better version of Sex Drugs Etc. from around this time last year, as in it has similar lyrics. But what makes this better than that song is that Dove Cameron sounds better than the dude from Beach Weather and the key makes more sense. So I'm fine with this being here, provided that When She's Around is the extra next week and not this.

We lost Seasons, Stick Season, Something To Remember, Wish You Would, and Without You. The first two are in the abyss, so hopefully the debut next week. I wish Something To Remember and Wish You Would had debuted because they were pretty good, and Without You was just alright, so I'm fine with that leaving.

Blurbs:
Before I continue, I would like to officially state that we can't have 7 weeks in a row with no exits, we need exits next week plz and thank you.

Ok why did Not The 1975 drop four spots off its debut?

At least Single Soon might be on its way out, I hope it leaves soon.

Strong Enough got a nice jump into the top 20. Nice to see.

Agora Hills and Strangers both jumped into the top 15. Happy to see those too.

Will Dial Drunk finally make the top 10 next week? I hope so.

Ok why did Lose Control drop instead of hitting #1?

Last Time I Saw You is back in its rightful place in the top 10.

Is It Over Now does not deserve to be in the top 5 at all.

Get Him Back has risen up to #2. I have a feeling this will either hit #1 next week or leave from the #2 spot, hopefully not the latter, because I'm starting to get a little tired of Greedy being #1.

I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.

  1. "Greedy has risen up to #2. I have a feeling this will either hit #1 next week or leave from the #2 spot, hopefully not the latter, because I'm starting to get a little tired of Greedy being #1" might be my favorite paragraph from you.
