UC/ Dayton game edition (Week of 12/16/2023)

Hello everyone, welcome to another countdown post. This is shockingly earlier than I usually get my posts out, I wanted to get this out before I played in the pep band for the UC/ Dayton basketball game later this evening. We had a pretty interesting week this week, with two really good debuts and some good jumps. Here are the songs that left:

Countdown Extra: Boys Like Girls- Miracle
Last Year's #1: Taylor Swift- Anti Hero
#1 Two Years Ago: Ed Sheeran- Shivers
My Favorite Song Last Year: Nicky Youre- Eyes On You
My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Pitbull/ Anthony Watts/ DJWS- I Feel Good
Recommendations For Hits 1: Pharrell/ Swae Lee/ Rauw Alejandro- Airplane Tickets and Alan Walker/ Jvke/ Yuqi- Fire

Both of our debuts are songs I hoped would come out of the abyss on to the countdown. First up is Seasons by Thirty Seconds To Mars. This is really cool. The production is super fun here and Jared Leto sounds really good throughout. I hope this can become a huge hit on here.

And although our other debut is about 1.5 years old, I still like it. It's Stick Season by Noah Kahan, and I'm glad I eventually heard this. I like the key that this is in, Noah Kahan sounds really good throughout, I like how this ties to be somewhat EDM halfway through and I like the banjo solo towards the end. Super fun song.

Hitbound:
Knox- Girl On The Internet
Renee Rapp/ Megan Thee Stallion- Not My Fault (Debut)
Dominic Fike- Mama's Boy
AJR- Inertia (Debut)
People R Ugly- Brain Dead (Debut)
Pink Pantheress/ Central Cee- Nice To Meet You
Alec Benjamin- I Sent My Therapist To Therapy
Nicki Minaj/ Lil Uzi Vert- Everybody (Debut)
Lany- XXL
Tate Mcrae- Run For The Hills
Boys Like Girls- Miracle
Dove Cameron- White Glove
Mitski- My Love Mine All Mine
Jungkook Standing Next To You
The Kid Laroi- Bleed
Patrick Martin- Dandelion Eyes

Early next year, Renee Rapp will star in the new Mean Girls movie, and yesterday, she put out a new song for it, Not My Fault with Megan Thee Stallion. Interesting collab. And it works quite well in my opinion. Renee Rapp sounds really good throughout and I like Megan Thee Stallion's verse a lot, and The production is EDM type, and in a good way. Great song.

So Mikey Piff removed Touchy Feely Fool by AJR last week and switched it out for another song off The Maybe Man this week, this song is called Inertia. I really want to like this more but it's forgettable and there is a key change at the end, and if I haven't mentioned this already, key changes bring down songs a decent bit for me. So I should listen to this again, but as of now, it feels pretty disappointing for AJR standards.

(trying not to laugh my head off while typing this) So next up we have this. It's Brain Dead by People R Ugly, and this is Jiggle Jiggle by Duke & Jones and Louis Theroux levels of funny. The lyrics on this are legendary, starting with that opening line "I recently found out that Will Smith was a rapper and Drake used to be a Nickelodeon actor," and this contains what might be the funniest pop punk production I've ever heard. Such an amazing song.

And we're rounding out our list of debuts with another song from Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday 2 album, and this is Everybody with Lil Uzi Vert. Oh boy, this could be rough to talk about. This samples the song Move Your Feet by Junior Senior in an extremely distracting way over the same beat she used for Barbie World and Pink Friday Girls, and this has honestly become cliche at this point. Yes, Lil Uzi Vert delivers a great verse, but it doesn't save the song a shit ton at all. I hope the rest of Pink Friday 2 is a lot better than what I've heard off it since its release.

We lost When She's Around, You Don't Ignore, Pink Friday Girls, and You're Hired. When She's Around is in the abyss, so I'm essentially praying it debuts next week. You Don't Ignore and Pink Friday Girls were just good, and I wish You're Hired had debuted.

Blurbs:
Our exits were Good Good and Bad Idea Right. Honestly, I'm fine with both of these, Good Good is starting to fade on me and Bad Idea Right was not as good as the other two Guts songs that Hits 1 picked up on.

Is Single Soon ever going to go the fuck away?

Wild Ones is finally not #30, but I have a sneaky suspicion it will be gone next week.

Why did Stranger jump four spots? This should be gone already.

It looks like American Town is on its way out, it continued dropping after last week.

At least Agora Hills rebounded into the top 20.

I guess Dial Drunk is on its way out, it dropped four spots and was not on the survey this past week, but I can't complain because it had a really good run.

Feather and Yes I'm A Mess both jumped into the top 10, yay for both.

Used To Be Young finally dropped two spots, I hope this continues dropping, or better yet, leaves from the #5 spot next week.

Houdini is now in the top 5, I really want this to hit #1 before Is It Over Now gets there, which I really don't want to happen.

I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
