Hello everyone, welcome to another countdown post. If you haven't seen my best list for 2023, you should definitely check that out if you haven't already. My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Pitbull/ Anthony Watts/ DJWS- I Feel Good
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Pharrell/ Swae Lee/ Rauw Alejandro- Airplane Tickets
Both of our debuts this week debuted in the top 20... Interesting. So coming in at #18, we have Feather by Sabrina Carpenter, which first debuted HB nine months ago. This one is pretty good. The production is super cool and SabCarp sounds good throughout per usual. Glad this could eventually be here.
And lastly, Olivia Rodrigo will be the musical guest on SNL tonight, and her song Can't Catch Me Now from the new Hunger Games movie debuts at #15. This one is nowhere near as good as any of the Guts singles I've heard, it's a bit slow and seems like something that Billie Eilish could be better at pulling off than Olivia Rodrigo, it even sounds like Male Fantasy by Billie Eilish from a couple years ago. This definitely should have been better.
Hitbound

Boys Like Girls- Miracle (Debut)
Petit Biscuit/ AJ- You Don't Ignore

The Kid Laroi- Bleed
Knox- Girl On The Internet (Debut)
Pink Pantheress/ Central Cee- Nice To Meet You
Lany- XXL
Tate Mcrae- Run For The Hills (Debut)

Bruce Melodie/ Shaggy- When She's Around
All right, so we have had various groups from the 90s and 2000s making comeback material this year, these include Blink 182, Linkin Park, and Nsync, among others. The latest name to add to that list is Boys Like Girls, who last appeared on Hits 1 in 2012 with Be Your Everything, and return 11 years later with Miracle. This is pretty good. I like the production here and Martin Johnson sounds really good. I hope they treat this better than One More Time, Lost, and Better Place.
More Alec Benjamin over, say, Airplane Tickets by Pharrell, Swae Lee, and Rauw Alejandro. But in all honesty, this new Alec Benjamin song, I Sent My Therapist To Therapy (interesting title, I might add) is actually pretty good. He tries to rap here, and does a surprisingly good job, at least this isn't full on drill music like that really cringe Beyonce song from last week, which is thankfully gone. The production also works, too. I'm fine with this being here.
Yesterday, Nicki Minaj dropped Pink Friday 2, and from it, we have this: It's called Pink Friday Girls and samples Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, in an easily recognizable way. The background from GJWHF is used over a trap beat and uses Cyndi Lauper's original vocals from that song. Nicki's flow is on point, here. I'm just not fully feeling this as of yet, but this can definitely grow on me.
So it looks like Knox has been announced as the next 1TW, but I'm not sure if it's with Not The 1975 or this next song, Girl On The Internet. Regardless, this will be the first time I've actively liked a 1TW song since Weatherman by Eddie Benjamin almost two years ago, So if you didn't take any hint, this new Knox song is quite good, though not quite as good as Not The 1975. Knox once again sounds really good and I feel like he's going for a wild rock vibe with this one, and it's working quite well for him. Glad this is here.
Lastly, we had another major album release yesterday, Tate Mcrae's Think Later. From it, we have Run For The Hills. Of the three songs off Think Later that I've heard thus far, this has to be my "least favorite," but that doesn't mean it isn't good. The production is pretty good and the chorus sounds like that of That part by Lauren Spencer-Smith from earlier this year, and Tate Mcrae sounds pretty good here again.
We lost Everywhere Everything, My House, Touchy Feely Fool, Freak 54, and FINALLY Pick Up The Phone this week. Good fucking riddance to My House, it never should have even been on here and Pick Up The Phone lasted way too long on here. While I would have liked to see the other three on the countdown, I would have been fine if they didn't.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Sugar Mommy and... ummm.... Last Time I Saw You, despite Pink Friday 2 dropping yesterday. So that's how you celebrate her album release, by removing a song of hers from the countdown that climbed eight spots last week? God, I don't even know anymore. And Sugar Mommy was good but nowhere near as good as Give Me A Kiss was, so I'm fine with that going.
Is Wild ones ever not going to be #30? For reference, this is its fourth straight week in the bottom spot.
What It Is will definitely be gone next week. This is the second week in a row it took a big drop.
Nooo why did Too Much also fall eight spots? I hope this rebounds next week.
Looks like Water has made the top 20. That's great to see.
I also hope American Town rebounds next week.
Let's go! Not The 1975 and Exes made the top 15! Hopefully, these are top 10 next week.
And speaking of the top 10, Lovin On Me, Strong Enough, and Strangers all made their ways there. I'd honestly like to see at least one of these hit #1.
Why is Is It Over Now still climbing? I really don't want this to hit #1.
And we have a new #1 this week, Get Him Back by Olivia Rodrigo, her first #1 on here in 2.5 years. Honestly, I'm glad this is now #1, because I was starting to get tired of Greedy being #1. Let's hope this blocks Is It Over Now in the coming weeks.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
