Hits 1's top 30 of 2023 (plus debut of new font and colors)

Hello everyone, it's that time of year again, for Hits 1's top 30 of 2023. I meant to get this out earlier, I was just pretty busy. But since we're now in 2024, I can officially debut the new font and color coding, which is:

Great
Good
Decent
Mediocre
Awful

So without further ado, let's get into Hits 1's top 30 of 2023!

30. Jungkook/ Latto- Seven
Still somewhat surprised this made the list, but the song is still quite good. Jungkook sounds good here and I like Latto's verse. I still prefer 3D and Too Much though.

29. Miley Cyrus- Used To Be Young
However, I am questioning how the fuck this made the list. This is just as overrated as Flowers, with that song still to come. This should not have hit #1.

28. Latto/ Lu Kala- Lottery
Now back to good songs. This definitely deserved to hit #1, and I'm glad it did. They both do well and the production gives off the vibes of a Doja Cat song.

27. Meghan Trainor- Made You Puke
Not gonna lie, this song definitely regrew on me after leaving the countdown, so I'm fine with it being here. I still think Mother is better though.

26. Tiesto/ Tate McRae- 10:35
No, I'm not being a major EDM simp here, I'm super glad Hits 1 recognized this as a legitimate hit, because it deserved it. Tate McRae sounds great per usual and Tiesto did a great job producing like he always does. Glad this is on the year end.

25. Taylor Swift- Karma
Shit. Of course there are numerous Taylor Swift songs on here, starting with this one. This one is quite annoying with or without Ice Spice (kind of surprised they played the original instead of the Ice Spice remix though.

24. Raye/ 070 Shake- Escapism
Ok what the living fuck? There is no way this should have made the damn list. It's impossible to even guess how the fuck this super annoying song even made the year end list. She does infinitely better on house songs.

23. Olivia Rodrigo- Vampire
Back to good music. I still find this one pretty good. While it starts off slow, it definitely evolves as it goes on. I wish this hit #1, but at least Get Him Back did.

22. Beyonce- Cuff It
Umm... the majority of this song's countdown run took place in 2022 and left one month into 2023, plus, I don't remember this peaking super high. And yes, these are minor complaints since I still find the song quite mediocre.

21. Niall Horan- Heaven
Ah yes. Of course a Hits 1 year end list wouldn't be complete without One Direction members having songs on it. But Niall Horan is not Harry Styles, and Heaven is quite good. Glad this was #1 for a week.

20. Pink Pantheress/ Ice Spice- Boy's A Liar Part 2
Super catchy song. Pink Pantheress sounds pretty good and I especially like Ice Spice's verse. Told you guys Ice Spice had good songs.

19. Tate McRae- Greedy
I'm honestly still enjoying this a little. While I'm definitely glad this went #1, I think four weeks there was enough.

18. Doechii- What It Is
Glad this was a huge hit here. I would have preferred if they had kept the version with Kodak Black though, because I can actually tolerate his music.

17. Crash Adams- Give Me A Kiss
Yes, this was a hit. It's just that other stations chose not to play it. I'm glad Hits 1 recognized it as a hit, and apparently, so are the Crash Adams guys themselves.

16. The Weeknd/ Madonna/ Playboi Carti- Popular
Yeah, this got a little bit annoying to listen to later on in its run. It is still pretty good, though.

15. Taylor Swift- Cruel Summer
Oh well, at least this wasn't any higher than this. This song from her 2019 album going viral four years later just fucking proves that Taylor Swift stanning got completely out of hand. I just hope we get a break from her in 2024.

14. Post Malone- Chemical
Post Malone's album Austin wasn't as good as his previous albums. This song is pretty good though, better than Enough Is Enough but not as good as Mourning.

13. Fifty Fifty- Cupid
Questioning how this even became a hit. Glad this might be their only hit for a long time.

12. Jonas Brothers- Waffle House
Super fun JoBros song. Glad it hit #1 and I hope Strong Enough eventually gets there in 2024.

11. Sza- Snooze
This lasted too long on the countdown. It's also on the slower side. I'm unsure how this became a hit over the summer. Also... this did not ever make the top 10 and is likely higher than its peak on the weekend countdown (unless it hit #1 there, I'm unsure at the moment).

10. Harry Styles- Satellite
Ah yes, a song from Harry's Hellhouse that did not deserve to be a hit one year after that album was released, and did not deserve to make the top 5. But hey, at least it got the biggest... DRRRRRRROP! off the countdown ever, according to Spyder.

On the topic of songs that left the countdown from the top 5...

9. Sabrina Carpenter- Nonsense
Well, this one was better than Satellite. Sabrina Carpenter sounds pretty good and the production is solid. Could have left earlier than it did though.

8. The 1975- I'm In Love With You
...or as Knox would call it, that one song that talks about being in love. Anyways, this is definitely among my favorite songs from The 1975. It is super catchy and Matty Healy sounds great throughout. Glad this had success over the course of two runs.

7. Dua Lipa- Dance The Night
Wow. The only Barbie song on here. Shocking, given how much they talked about that movie during the year. At least it was this and not Barbie World, which will forever be an annoyance.

6. Metro Boomin/ The Weeknd/ 21 Savage- Creepin
I think the last time I heard this was its last week on the countdown back in April. That said, I once again find this as good as I did when I first heard it. Metro Boomin's production is cool, and my favorite part is still 21 Savage's verse.

5. Taylor Swift- Anti Hero
God dammit, of course we have to have a Taylor Swift song in the top 5. And yes, I have the same questions about this being here that I have about Cuff It being here

4. Ed Sheeran- Eyes Closed
Subtract was the last album Ed Sheeran put out before I went to go see him, and Eyes Closed, the lead single from it, is pretty good but not as good as when I first heard it.

3. Sza- Kill Bill
Not sure how this was this high on here. While this is pretty catchy, the lyrics are pretty bizarre. So whatever.

2. Fall Out Boy- Love From The Other Side
Just the banger you would expect from FOB. Patrick Stump sounds great like always and the production is solid. Glad this eventually hit #1 and made it to #2 on the year end countdown, their first time in the #1 spot sing The Last Of The Real Ones made it there in 2018.

And Hits 1's #1 song of 2023 is...

1. Miley Cyrus- Flowers
Ugh. We really overrated Miley Cyrus this year, starting with this song being way too huge and then the fucking demo ballad of it being picked up... I guess that was a fucking hint to the original being their #1 song of 2023. Well, I haven't liked a Hits 1 #1 song of a year since Who Do You Love by The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds Of Summer in 2019 (although Therefore I Am by Billie Eilish wasn't that bad, I just wasn't sold on it ever).

I guess that concludes my review for Hits 1's top 30 of 2023, see you guys for my countdown post this weekend, plus, I will be launching the Countdown Extras rankdown this week, so keep an eye out for that.
