Everything better (Week of 3/9/2024)

Hello everyone, welcome to another countdown post. So yeah, it looks like we're entering a new era of the Hits 1 blogging community as Waffle announced he's no longer making weekly countdown posts. I have an announcement, it's that I will be extending the due date for the 2023 countdown extras rankdown to April 9th in order to focus on watching the NCAA basketball tournament. So we had a pretty good week this week, with some good drops and jumps. Here are the songs that left:

My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Alesso/ Katy Perry- When I'm Gone
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: This Didn't Age Well/ Ty Dolla Sign/ Rich The Kid/ Playboi Carti- Carnival

Our first three debuts this week jacked titles from other songs. First up is Kissing Strangers by Usher, off his new album from last month. He clearly jacked the title from DNCE and Nicki Minaj's song from 2017, and this song is not as good as that one. He sounds fine, but there really isn't anything memorable about it, and it could be in a different key. But it's cool.

Our next song is Make You Mine by Madison Beer. This is pretty good. It reminds me of Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish but if that song were produced by Lost Frequencies. In other words, pretty cool song.

Up next, Girl In Red makes her first appearance on the countdown after her super cringe HB dropout Serotonin from three years ago, this is called Too Much. I like this a decent bit more than I do Serotonin but this is nowhere near as good as The Kid Laroi, Jungkook, and Central Cee's song of the same title. The production works, she sounds better than on Serotonin, and the lyrics are less cringe. So good improvement.

It looks as though Sza is working on a deluxe edition of SOS, and from it, we have Saturn. This is really just there. She sounds fine but it's relatively slow. So almost the same vibe as the album.

Lastly, it seems as though Beyonce is going country, as she has this out, it's called Texas Hold Em. I previously talked about this in my fake countdown post from a couple weeks ago, and my opinion on this from that post is indeed my actual opinion. This is interesting, a marked improvement over her last song that made Hits 1. The production is solid and she sounds pretty good. So I'll say she can make a solid country song.

Hitbound:
Fall Out Boy- So Much (For) Stardust
Ariana Grande- We Can't Be Friends (Debut)
Teddy Swims- The Door
Hayes Warner/ Billy B/ Kevin Rudolf- Just A Girl (Debut)
Luke Hemmings- Shakes (Debut)
Pharrell/ Miley Cyrus- Doctor
Dasha- Austin (Debut)
Djo- End Of Beginning (Debut)
24kgoldn- Clarity (Re-entry)
Lay/ Lauv- Run Back To You
Charli XCX- Von Dutch (Debut)
Twenty One Pilots- Overcompensate
Liam Payne- Teardrops
Galantis/ David Guetta/ 5 Seconds Of Summer- Lighter
The Beaches- Blame Brett
Jagwar Twin- Bad Feeling

Yesterday, Ariana Grande released Eternal Sunshine, and from it, we have We Can't Be Friends. I'd consider this an improvement over Yes And. The production is similar, but the key is an improvement, and the strings at the end are pretty cool. I'm totally cool with this being here, especially since it's the single.

Anyone remember Just A Girl by No Doubt? Well, Hayes Warner either covered that song or sampled it but jacked the title from it. And this is interesting, probably nothing I'm ever going to revisit. Does Hayes Warner naturally sound like Gwen Stefani? Because I feel like she sounds like Gwen Stefani in here, and Billy B's flow is pretty good and Kevin Rudolf does a god job producing. So I have no complaints.

One week after 5 Seconds Of Summer teamed up with Galantis and David Guetta on Lighter (thankfully, that song's still on here), Luke Hemmings went solo and put out a more downtempo song called Shakes. And this is just good. He sounds fine, but as I said, this is on the slower side. It's good for now, but if this lasts and Lighter doesn't, we could have some problems.

Next up, we have Dasha making her Hits 1 debut with Austin. I'm pretty sure she jacked the title from a Blake Shelton song, but this is a good song. The production gives old western vibes in a good way, and Dasha sounds pretty good here. Fun song.

Our next song is from Stranger Things actor Joe Keery, performing under the name Djo. This is really just good. It's on the slower side but Djo sounds pretty good, so I'll take it.

Lastly, Charli XCX is back on here for the first time since Speed Drive roughly six months ago. This is called Von Dutch, and it honestly slaps unnaturally hard. The production is quite cool... (checks credits) it wasn't done by anyone I've heard of before. Anyways, Charli XCX sounds pretty good here too. So solid song.

We lost Pick Me, Don't Let Me Down, Son Of A, Before You Leave Me, Good Side, Honey Ain't No Sweeter, and S.A.D. Honestly, Good Side and Pick Me are the only two of these I quite liked, but I never really expected these to debut.

Our exits were Pink Friday Girls, Everybody, Say Cheese, Wherever U R, and Seasons. Both Nicki Minaj songs were semi robbed (remember, Everybody grew on me). Say Cheese was good but was never necessarily going to be as big as Lil Boo Thang was, although I want it to re-enter. Wherever U R was painfully slow and I'm completely fine with it gone, and it's safe to admit Seasons had a solid run.

Lose Control and Greedy are finally dropping, these could both be out of here next week.

Me Myself & Your Eyes god a big jump off its debut, glad we're giving Knox another hit on here.

Water finally cracked the top 15. Good to see.

Beautiful Things is starting to have success here. Even better to see.

Unless you count the fake countdown from a couple weeks ago, Stick Season is in the top 10 for the first time. I'm happy this is here.

Despite the action earlier in the countdown, the entire top 5 from last week held their respective spots from last week. I'm calling it, I think we need a new #1 soon, maybe Feather or Not The 1975, just please not Is It Over Now.

I guess that does it for me this week see you guys next week.

  2. Bad Feeling has now hit its 13th hitbound week. This used to be relatively normal, but now it's becoming somehow less common for songs to last that long. We haven't had a Hb tenure that long since I Hate You in 2022-2023.
