The week before a milestone (Week of 5/4/2024)
Hello everyone, welcome to my post for the week before my two year anniversary. My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Jack Harlow- First Class
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Marshmello/ Kane Brown- Miles On It
First up is the latest single from Twenty One Pilots' upcoming album Clancy, this is called Backside. This is yet another solid banger from them. It has some cool production and Tyler Joseph once again sounds quite good. Good to see this on here.
I also talked about this next song last week. It's OkLoser by Doja Cat. which is the actual single from the deluxe version of Scarlet. Tbh, I definitely prefer Masc with Teezo Touchdown, which this replaced on HB last week. I'm still not sold on this as of yet. It's pretty forgettable for Doja Cat standards and nothing about this really stands out. However, I like the beat this has and She sounds pretty good thouughout. So it all balances out to decent.
And here's what doesn't: Of course we had to have a second The Tortured Poets Department song on here because apparently, we can never have too much Taylor Swift on here. Today, the song is I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, and, as I'm sure you've guessed, it's quite bad. It feels so insanely mysterious, as if it were actually a Reputation Taylor's Version vault track. And yes, that is indeed what I said about Fortnight last week. Anyways, I hope this is the last TTPD song I ever hear on here because I've already had enough with that album, as just like with Midnights, the entire top 10 of the hot 100 was filled with TTPD, and it wasn't just that, songs 11-14 were TTPD songs. I really hope this is the last I hear from Taylor Swift for a really long time so she doesn't fill up the entire top 10 of the hot 100 ever again.
Hitbound:
Artemas- I Like The Way You Kiss Me
Gracie Abrams- Risk (Debut)
D4vd- Feel It
Dua Lipa- These Walls (Debut)
Knox- Change Your Mind
Kygo/ Zak Abel/ Nile Rodgers- For Life
OneRepublic- Nobody
Jessie Murph- Cold
Lay Bankz- Tell Ur Girlfriend
Teddy Swims- Apple Juice
Forrest Frank/ Connor Price- Up (Debut)
Michael Macargi- Scared To Start
The Chainsmokers/ Fridayy- Friday (Debut)
David Guetta/ OneRepublic- I Don't Wanna Wait
Lauv- Potential
Tommy Richman- Million Dollar Baby (Debut)
First up, we have a new song from Gracie Abrams called Risk. This is pretty solid. It's a lot more upbeat than the other songs I've heard from her and she once again sounds pretty good, my issue is the key it's in. That might not be a huge issue down the road and this could grow on me though.
As I've previously mentioned, I will be reviewing Dua Lipa's album Radical Optimism as part of my two year anniversary, and up next is a preview of that review, as These Walls makes its debut on here. This is a solid song, again, more on the forgettable side and some of the lyrics don't make a whole lot of sense. Again, it could grow on me.
This next song is going to be extremely fun to talk about. It's Forrest Frank from the Surfaces and Connor Price on Up. Apparently, this was on Zestpond's bubbling under on his crownnote chart a couple months ago, and I can honestly see why. This song is so fucking fun, and it goes without saying that it's better than Cardi B's song of the same title. The vibe of this is spot on, Forrest Frank sounds quite good throughout, and Connor Price's verse fits in perfectly. I hope this is a hit.
This next song came out last week but makes its way on here this week. Remember when The Chainsmokers got Rozes on a song called Roses? Well now, they did something similar, get Fridayy on a song called Friday. Interesting. Anyways, this also has the same vibe that Roses had back in 2015. TCS did a great job producing again and Fridayy sounds quite good throughout. Fun song.
Lastly, we have a song that's projected to debut in the top 5 of the hot 100 this week (hopefully it does, replacing any TTPD song), this is called Million Dollar Baby by Tommy Richman. This slaps so hard. And yes, I think it's better than Ava Max's song of the same title. The production here is so cool and Tommy Richman sounds quite good here throughout, both with the falsetto and his regular voice. I hope this is high on billboard and has a successful run on the countdown too.
We lost Belong Together, Good Luck Babe, and Dumb. The first two are in the abyss, so hopefully, Good Luck Babe debuts next week and I couldn't care less with what happens to Belong Together, and Dumb really should have been given a chance to debut.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Not My Fault, Selfish, and Kissing Strangers. The first two had good runs and will be missed, and I was never sold on Kissing Strangers, mainly due to DNCE and Nicki Minaj having a better song with that title.
Looks like Texas Hold Em is almost done. I'd be fine with that leaving next week since it's been here for a while and I was never completely sold on it.
I'm relieved A Symptom Of Being Human rebounded slightly, but I hope this makes the top 15 again soon.
I heard Espresso five times on Hits 1 yesterday, so I'm not surprised it jumped into the top 15.
Of course Fortnight jumped huge off its debut. Hey, at least it didn't jump all the way to #1.
End Of Beginning is now in the top 10. This one is starting to fade on me a little bit, so hopefully it doesn't last too long here.
Nice to see Too Sweet at #3. I really want this to hit #1 soon before Fortnight gets there.
We Can't Be Friends is now up to #2. Hopefully this also hits #1 before Fortnight does, and it's worth mentioning that this would be Ariana Grande's first ever #1 on here if it made it to the top spot. We shall see though.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week for my two year anniversary post.
