With the first Shitbound in forever (Week of 6/8/2023)

Hello everyone, welcome to another countdown post. One quick announcement, there will be no ETT post for last week as I was busy doing surveying in the southeast side of Columbus all of last week, and the list of throwbacks was not motivating enough to do it. ETT posts will be back on tomorrow, though. Anyways, on to this week, it was alright, but Hitbound is trending in the wrong direction rn. Let's just begin, here are the songs that left:

Last year's #1: Taylor Swift/ Ice Spice- Karma
#1 Two Years Ago: Harry Styles- Ass It Was
My Favorite Song Last Year: David Guetta/ Anne Marie/ Coi Leray- Baby Don't Hurt Me
My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Duke & Jones/ Louis Theroux- Jiggle Jiggle
Recommendations for Hits 1: Nicky Youre- Tease Me and Pitbull/ Ne Yo/ Afrojack- 2 The Moon (I especially want this one on here)

Our first debut is the lead single off Eminem's upcoming album The Death Of Slim Shady, and this is called Houdini. And this is amazing. It completely resembles classic Eminem music in a good way, and I especially like the callback to Without Me at the beginning. It's also very interesting when he makes random references and does a good job with that here (although he went a little bit too far with the reference to Megan Thee Stallion getting shot). But aside from that, amazing Slim Shady banger.

Our other two debuts aren't as great, especially this one, The Craving by Twenty One Pilots. I think this might be the first time I've ever been underwhelmed by a Twenty One Pilots song. It's a bit too slow but interesting enough to keep the ranking decent, and this is not exactly in the right key. I hope to eventually see Midwest Indigo, a banger from Clancy, on here.

Lastly, after being in the abyss for a couple weeks, Birds Of A Feather by Billie Eilish is on here. I personally find this better than Lunch. It has a solid beat and she sounds pretty good. Solid song.

Hitbound:
Tyla/ Gunna/ Skillibeng- Jump
Halsey- The End (Debut)
Dua Lipa- These Walls
Gracie Abrams- Close To You (Debut)
Sabrina Carpenter- Please Please Please (Debut)
Knox- Change Your Mind
Meghan Trainor- Whoops (Debut)
Raye- Genesis Part 2 (Debut)
Wallows- Calling After Me (Re-entry)
Saweetie- Nani
Charli XCX- 360
Henry Moodie- Drunk Text
Teddy Swims- Hammer To The Heart
Myles Smith- Stargazing
Lay Bankz- Tell Ur Girlfriend
Imagine Dragons- Nice To Meet You

Wow, this list could be rough to talk about. After health battles, Halsey is back with new music, and I wish I never even heard this. It's called The End, and it is quite fucking bad. First off, there is literally almost no production here, especially compared to Afrojack's production on 2 The Moon. The "production" on this song (The End) is literally just a goddamn acoustic guitar line with no actual beat. How fucking interesting. The song is in F# major too, so that does not help under any fucking circumstances. I get that she's trying to sing about her health struggles, but this is not the type of song to do it on. I hope this flops hard.

Next up, we have a new song from Gracie Abrams called Close To You. At least this has a synthpop beat. But aside from that, this is essentially a synthpop remake of Risk, the melodies in the two songs sound almost identical. Again, it's still a fine song, it feels like something she's recently done, and that's my issue here.

I see we're trying to overrate the shit out of Sabrina Carpenter in 2024 like we did with Miley Cyrus last year, are we? Well, she's back with Please Please Please, and this is really just good. My main issue is that the second verse is in a different key than the rest of the song, although she sounds fine and the song is interesting. After this, I'll probably need a break from Sabrina Carpenter though.

Yesterday, Meghan Trainor dropped a new album, and from it, we have Whoops. This starts out to be a solid song, kind of giving off the vibes of her song Mother from last year. And then there's the key change at the end. Of course, that's moderately distracting, as are most songs with key changes. So that's why the ranking isn't green.

Oh great, time to talk about Raye again. She just put out a 3 part song called Genesis, and Part 2 is on HB. This is one of the better parts (I heard the full song on Daniel's HOF show). It just makes sense and it has cool production. It's just a little bit forgettable, though.

Lastly, Calling After Me by Wallows re-entered a couple months later. Ok then.

We lost Ways To Go, Hero, I Wanna Thank Me, and Turn It Up. I'm fine with all of these, Hero was good but I never fully expected it to debut.

Blurbs:
Our exits were Stick Season, No Shade At Pitti, and OkLoser. Stick Season was here for a bit too long, but it is still pretty good. No Shade At Pitti deserved a lot better, but Spyder said at the beginning of the countdown that just because these songs left doesn't mean they're gone forever, and hopefully NSAP re-enters. And OkLoser was just there, so I don't really care what happens to it next.

At least I Don't Wanna Wait is jumping a little bit. Great to see.

Looks like Me Myself & Your Eyes might leave soon.

I really hope A Bar Song makes the top 15 next week.

We Can't Be Friends looks to be on its way out as well.

I was not expecting The Boy Is Mine to jump as much as it did. I'm still happy about this, as it's my favorite Eternal Sunshine song so far.

However, that was the only noteworthy thing that happened in the top 10. Pretty boring otherwise, that includes Too Sweet still being #1.

I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
