Kind of a cooldown, but good HB (Week of 10/19/2024)
Hello everyone, I'm writing this from the end of UC Homecoming weekend, where the football team won against Arizona State by 10 points. And then I came back to this countdown, where the movement was somewhat cooled down, but there were still some interesting jumps. Let's just get into it, here are our exits:

My Favorite Song Last Year: Paul Russell- Lil Boo Thang
My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: David Guetta/ Bebe Rexha- I'm Good
Recommendations For Hits 1: Natalie La Rose- Boys Lie and Mabel/ Ty Dolla Sign- Stupid Dumb
Similar scenario to last week, with one debut and one re-entry. Our debut is Sympathy Is A Knife by Charli XCX and Ariana Grande. This is basically another version of Guess but with less bizarre lyrics, and I can't even tell what the fuck Ariana Grande's contributions are. That said, the beat is fine and Charli XCX sounds fine, so it all balances out.
And then Lonely Road by MGK and Jelly Roll re-entered. All right then, althugh this is fading on me a little bit.
Hitbound:
Dasha- Bye Bye Bye
Rose'/ Bruno Mars- APT (Debut)
Ava Max- Spot A Fake
Gracie Abrams- That's So True (Debut)
Kylie Minogue- Lights Camera Action
Balu Brigada- So Cold
Jennie- Mantra
David Guetta/ Alphaville/ Ava Max- Forever Young (Debut)
Morgan Wallen- Love Somebody (Debut)
Gigi Perez- Sailor Song (Debut)
Jelly Roll/ Halsey- Take A Bow
Hayes Warner- Zip
Knox- Invisible
Lawrence- Whatcha Want (Re-entry)
Henry Moodie- Good Old Days
Myles Smith- Wait For You
We've gotten a lot of solo songs from Blackpink members lately, and the latest being APT by Rose' and Bruno Mars. I think this is pretty interesting. The beat here is cool and they both sound pretty good. Fun song.
So Gracie Abrams dropped a deluxe version of The Secret Of Us, and from it, we have That's So True. Wanna know what is so true? Well, this is basically a carbon copy of Risk, which is underwhelming as it is, and it basically feels like she's doubling down on everything she did there, and the result is complete mediocracy. So yeah, I hope she makes more songs that don't sound like that in the future.
Thankfully it gets a lot better, because next up, we have Forever Young by David Guetta, Alphaville, and Ava Max, which samples Alphaville's 1984 song with that title, and then that song was sampled on Young Forever by Jay Z and Mr Hudson in 2010. On to this new song... this is a goddamn banger and a half. David Guetta's production goes quite hard and the 1984 Forever Young hook goes well with it, and both Marian Gold (the lead vocalist of Alphaville) and Ava Max sound quite good here. I hope this is a huge hit everywhere.
Next up, we have a new song from Morgan Wallen called Love Somebody. And just like every other song of his I've heard, I like this one. It has a different type of beat that what he usually does, and it works. He also sounds pretty good here per usual. Great song.
It's about time they picked up on this next song. So this is Sailor Song by Gigi Perez, which has been doing well on streaming lately as well as on the hot 100. And I think this is pretty good. The hook here is super interesting and so is the production, and Gigi Perez sounds pretty good. So I think liking this could be a guilty pleasure for me.
Lastly, Whatcha Want by Lawrence re-entered. I think this is because it is doing something on mediabase now.
We lost Moonlit Floor, Burning Down, Silverlines, I Never Loved You, Bad Dreams, and Kid Again. The first two are in the abyss, so hopefully they debut next week. Silverlines sucked ass, so good fucking riddance. I Never Loved You wasn't that memorable, Bad Dreams was tolerable, and Kid Again deserved to debut the countdown.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Miles On It and Pretty Slowly. Miles On It did pretty well for a sequel collab and will be missed, and while Pretty Slowly was good, I'm honestly all right without it on here.
Hmm... maybe we don't need I'm His He's Mine on here.
Super Happy that The Emptiness Machine jumped five spots off its re-entry.
How did I Am Not Okay jump to #15? It's not bad, but still a bit slow.
Looks like Good Luck Babe is starting to make its way out. I'm all right with this, it had a pretty good run here.
Austin also dropped four spots. This is now on its 30th week on here and has already gotten annoying, so the sooner this leaves, the better.
Ego has now made its way up to #6, not a huge surprise for how much they like Halsey.
Close To You is now in the top 5... I'm fine with this, and I would be fine if this went #1, but only for like 1 or 2 weeks.
And speaking of #1, we have a new one... unfortunately yet another one from Sabrina Carpenter, now her 4th consecutive #1 on here. And this one took the least time to get here. Hopefully, this isn't #1 for too long, but knowing Hits 1 well, I wouldn't hold my breath.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
