Well, color me surprised. When Forever Young by David Guetta, Alphaville, and Ava Max dropped out of Hitbound last week, I thought it was done for good as it was not getting spins nor did it get spins at all since it dropped out. But I am obviously very happy that it is now on the countdown because I still like it quite a bit, in fact, it's projected to be top 5 on my 2024 best list, which should be out in about 1.5 months. So like many David Guetta songs since I'm Good, this samples something, and here, that something is Alphaville's song of the same title from 1984. And this sample works quite well, as Marian Gold's hook goes quite well with David Guetta's production and Ava Max also sounds quite good per usual. I really hope this lasts a few weeks here.

Next up, pulling a Sunday Best, we have Born With A Broken Heart by Damiano David, which apparently also didn't get any spins within the past week. This is thankfully a lot better than his other solo song Silverlines, which, if you don't remember, I did not like that one at all. With this new song, though, the beat is good and Damiano David sounds good, my issue is, of course, the key change at the end of the song. But this key change is tolerable compared to that of Diet Pepsi. So great song, Damiano David.

Up next, we have a pretty anticipated song from Lady Gaga called Disease. This goes hard, it kind of reminds me of Alejandro from 2010 in terms of the beat. Also, Lady Gaga sounds quite good here per usual. So yeah, definitely a step up over Die With A Smile.

So Forever Young wasn't the only debut this week with an obvious sample, as coming in at number 23, we have Moonlit Floor by Lisa from Blackpink, which samples Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer. This is solid, probably my favorite song from her aside from SG with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion from three years ago. Lisa sounds pretty good here and the beat is pretty good, the sample works quite well here too. Good to see this (though I easily prefer Forever Young in terms of debuts this week with samples).

Oh boy... I really did not want to talk about any more songs from The Tortured Poets Department. But of course, we have what I can only assume is a random ass non single from the album called So High School. And yeah... This is as bad as the other two songs from TTPD that I've heard on this countdown. It's so painfully generic in every way possible and the style just isn't my goddamn thing. So yeah, I hope this is just here for one week, as I am straight up done with TTPD after this.

Hitbound (not including Sunday Bests):
Gigi Perez- Sailor Song
Jennie- Mantra
Balu Brigada- So Cold
The Weeknd/ Anitta- Sao Paulo (Debut)
Jawsh 685/ Jason Derulo- Make Me Happy
Almost Monday- Can't Slow Down (Debut)
Hayes Warner- Zip
Gracie Abrams- That's So True
Akon- Akon's Beautiful Day
Jessie Murph- Sip
Henry Moodie- Good Old Days
Halsey- Panic Attack
Myles Smith- Wait For You
Dasha- Bye Bye Bye
Lawrence- Whatcha Want

Gonna be honest, I had a bit of high expectations for this first debut, Sao Paulo by The Weeknd and Anitta. As it is though, it's just good. The beat is pretty cool and both of them sound fine (although I'm not exactly sure what Anitta is saying in the beginning), it's five minutes long and this is really the kind of song that would be good between three and four minutes long. So I was expecting this to be better.

I think we remember Almost Monday from their HB dropouts Till The End Of Time and Sunburn from 2021 and 2022, respectively, and I personally also remember them from Tidal Wave from earlier this year, and additionally, when I saw AJR earlier this year, they were one of the opening acts. Today, they're back with Can't Slow Down. I've liked all of the songs I've heard from them thus far, and this is also pretty good. The beat is pretty fun and Dawson Daugherty sounds quite good per usual. Great song.

Jesus, Hits 1. Can we stop picking up on Jessie Murph already? Well, she now brings us Sip, and this is among her better songs, but that's not saying jack shit because I've never been wowed by any of her songs. This reminds me of Here by Alessia Cara a little bit, and she sounds alright. All I need to say here.

We lost Invisible and Take A Bow. Invisible was good but the remix with Rosie was better, and I can live without Take A Bow.

Blurbs:
Our exits were Not Like Us, Belong Together, Good Luck Babe, 360, and I Had Some Help. Not Like Us got robbed, but at least they even picked up on it at all. Belong Together was alright but never that great. 360 was getting quite annoying so I'm glad that shit's finally out. Lastly, I'm happy about the success that Good Luck Babe and I Had Some Help got, they will both be missed.

How did I'm His He's Mine finally rebound?

All right, Diet Pepsi has gotten quite annoying, mainly due to her much better new song from last week. So how did it jump all the way to #21?

Looks like It's Ok I'm Ok is starting to make a slight climb?

Hopefully, Austin is on its way out for good this time.

I'm super happy that We Pray rebounded. I hope this continues jumping.

A little bit surprised I Am Not Okay is in the top 10.

Much happier about Carry You Home and Dancing In The Flames in the top 10 though.

And that's pretty much it. If Die With A Smile eventually makes #1, I'd be alright with that, as long as it's only for a few weeks.

I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
