So we have not one, but two songs from Wicked debuting this week, first up is Popular by Ariana Grande. Tbh, this has grown on me a little bit since it was on Hitbound. I still don't like how Ariana Grande doesn't exactly sound like herself and I still feel like this works better in the context of the film, but I have come to enjoy the melodies here and the key is all right. So yeah, better than I remember.
Up next is our only debut not from Wicked this week, Luther by Kendrick Lamar and Sza. These two previously collaborated on All The Stars from the Black Panther soundtrack in 2018, and to be honest, that song is a lot better than this one. This is not bad though, it has a decent beat and they both sound fine, it's that their previous collab is a lot more memorable. That's it.
And lastly, we have Defying Gravity by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande from Wicked. And just like Popular, this works better in the context of the film, but it is a little bit better than Popular. The beat is good, both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande sound alright, although this opinion could change depending on how annoying this gets for me. So yeah, I'll take it for now.
Hitbound:
Jessie Murph- Sip
Rosé- Toxic Till The End (Debut)
Balu Brigada- So Cold
DJ Lucas Beat/ Jason Derulo/ Sia- You Can Do Anything (Debut)
Griff- Last Night's Mascara
Almost Monday- Can't Slow Down
Nessa Barrett/ Artemas- Mustang Baby
Meg Donnelly- In My Bag
The Marias- No One Noticed
Crash Adams- Optimist (Debut)
Teddy Swims- Bad Dreams (Re-entry)
Jonah Marais/ Ryan Lewis- Slow Motion
Twenty One Pilots- The Line
Henry Moodie- Good Old Days
Dasha- Heartbreaker From Tennessee
Myles Smith- Nice To Meet You
So apparently, APT was the only single off Rosé from Blackpink's new album that had fun lyrics, and the rest of the tracks are about a pretty bad breakup, and that includes this next song, Toxic Til The End. Granted, this is a lot better than Number One Girl but I still don't enjoy this as much as I should. It's a bit upbeat and she sounds fine, it's a bit forgettable. But I'll take it.
And next up, we have this. It's Jason Derulo and Sia featuring on a song by a Portuguese DJ named DJ Lucas Beat called You Can Do Anything. And let's be real, this kind of works. DJ Lucas Beat's production here goes hard and both Jason Derulo and Sia sound pretty good here. So yeah, this shouldn't work, but it does.
Crash Adams are back with their first song since that legendary banger Hotel Party from this past summer, this is called Optimist. This is also quite good. It has a great beat and great melodies and whoever is singing sounds good per usual. So yeah, another fun song from them.
Lastly, Bad Dreams by Teddy Swims re-entered. It makes sense since this is getting pushed to pop radio. I would have rather seen his new song with Quavo and Luke Bryan on here instead, but it's fine.
We lost Number One Girl, which sucked and was replaced by a better song from her. So a W.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Criminals, Touch, and Heatstroke. The last one was the only one of those three that I liked a decent bit, although I am a bit shocked it left after jumping huge last week. I think songs need to drop before leaving.
How is Diet Pepsi still here?
Nice to see Love Somebody at #21. I hope this makes the top 20 next week.
Hot To Go might be on its way out given its 12 spot drop.
That's So True is now at #15. It's definitely grown on me a little bit, so I'm fine with this.
Meanwhile, Dancing In The Flames dropped 6 spots. I'm unsure how this will continue on here though.
Ok why is I Can Do It With A Broken Heart back in the top 10? It needs to be gone soon.
Pink Pony Club is now in the top 5. It will be interesting to see if this makes #1 in the coming weeks.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
