Looks like we finally have debuts to talk about, starting off with the best one on the list. Hits 1 finally picked up on Timeless by The Weeknd and Playboi Carti. And if you saw my 2024 best list, you'll know that I like this quite a bit. It has such a fun beat and both of them do a great job here, I especially like Playboi Carti's verse at the beginning of the song. I hope this has at least a little bit of success on here despite debuting super late.
Next up, we have the actual single from the deluxe version of Sza's Lana album, BMF. This is tolerable. It has a better beat than certain other songs she did, plus, she sounds pretty good here, it's just a bit forgettable. So I'll honestly take it.
Lastly, we have Messy by Lola Young making its way on to the countdown. This has grown on me since it first debuted HB, and I quite like it now. The beat here is really fun and Lola Young sounds pretty good here. I'm happy this is becoming a hit.
Hitbound:
Tyla- Push 2 Start (Debut)
Tyla- Push 2 Start (Debut)
Hayes Warner- Oh (Debut)
Morgan Wallen- Smile
Vella- All My Love (Debut)
Sza- Drive
Crash Adams- Optimist
Griff- Last Night's Mascara
Marshmello/ Jonas Brothers- Slow Motion (Debut)
Dasha- Bye Bye Bye
Alessi Rose- IKYK (Debut)
Teddy Swims/ Giveon- Are You Even Real
Kesha- Delusional
Rosé- Toxic Till The End (Re-entry)
Willow Avalon- Baby Blue (Debut)
Twice/ Megan Thee Stallion- Strategy
Nessa Barrett- Pins & Needles
Our first debut comes from Tyla, this is called Push 2 Start. This is honestly kind of fun. I like the Latin type beat this has and Tyla sounds quite good as always. Interesting song.
(sighs) Well, instead of something that's actually huge like Tweaker by LiAngelo Ball, we have a second "Hits 1 exclusive" from Hayes Warner that they're picking up on a week before it actually comes out, this is called Oh. This is alright. The beat is alright and she sounds fine, I just wish I could hear it on streaming services, and just like Predator, the fact that Hits 1 picked up on this a week before it came out takes this down for me a bit.
And now we're on to our first random newcomer of 2025, this is All My Love by Vella. Mikey Piff compared this to something from Amy Winehouse, Adele, or Raye, and I can kind of see what he's talking about. The beat is alright and Vella sounds fine, that's all I really have to say here. It's also pretty forgettable, if you ask me.
Ok now we're talking about something I'm actually interested in talking about. So Marshmello and the Jonas Brothers have collaborated for a second time following Leave Before You Love Me in 2021, this is called Slow Motion. This is quite good. I always like how Marshmello changes his production style for all of his songs, and here, he goes for the vibe of a classic Kygo song, and that's a compliment. Also, both Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas sound good here per usual. So yet another great sequel collab.
We have our second random newcomer this week, this is IKYK by Alessi Rose. This is decent. It gives off rather interesting Nessa Barrett vibes, specifically reminds me of Nessa Barrett songs that I didn't care for. The production is alright and Alessi Rose sounds fine, it's just a bit forgettable. That's all.
For some god awful reason, Toxic Till The End by Rosé re-entered. And yes, I did move this down a tier because it's rather boring compared to Drinks Or Coffee.
Oh great. More fucking Willow Avalon. She put out a new album on Friday called Southern Belle Raisin Hell, and of course, they added a song from that album instead of something like, you guessed it, Tweaker by LiAngelo Ball. That said, Baby Blue, the song from the album they added, is a little bit better than I anticipated but still not that good. Her voice is a lot more strange than I remember and but the production is a bit interesting, so that saves the song a little bit. Still, not the kind of music we need here.
We lost No One Noticed, Oscar Winning Tears, The Line, What Is This Feeling, Drinks Or Coffee, So Cold, and Can't Slow Down. The first two are in the abyss and I would prefer if they didn't debut (although it would be good to have an orange song again). The Line was boring, What Is This Feeling is my least favorite Wicked song, Drinks Or Coffee was replaced by Toxic Till The End, which is a significant downgrade imo, and while I liked the last two, they both lasted a bit too long and it was time for them to go.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Close To You, Dancing In The Flames, and Hello Miss Johnson. It was time for Close To You to leave a long time ago, so good riddance to that. Dancing In The Flames was good but fading on me as Timeless is so much better. And I'm sad Hello Miss Johnson never really took off?
Looks like Luther is finally starting to do something.
Bad Dreams in the top 20... guess I'll take it
I Love You I'm Sorry finally rebounded. Great to see.
Sailor Song is almost in the top 10. Let's hope it gets there.
Taste is finally starting to make its way out. Keep dropping.
Unfortunately, she replaced herself in the top 5 with Bed Chem. I hope this doesn't hit #1, and if it does, I will have some WORDS to say.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
