I had some reasons, ok? (Week of 3/1/2025)
Hello everyone, and sorry this is so late, I had pep band immediately after listening to this week's countdown and then went up to Columbus for the weekend after that, and then I had some homework after I got back, and now was when I was able to do my post, there were a few events that happened since I got back that decreased my motivation to finish this. So first up, Avery Anna makes her countdown debut as opposed to, I don't know, this being in the abyss for 20+ weeks. The song is Mr Predictable, and I will say that this has grown on me since last week. It starts off slow like the first song of hers that I talked about, Narcissist. Then, it takes a bit of a bit of a Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish esque turn after the first hook, and I don't mind this as much as I previously thought, as it is in a better key than it should be. So yeah, still not sold, but it's better than I previously thought.
Last week, Tate McRae dropped So Close To What, and from it, we have Revolving Door. This is solid. She sounds pretty good and I like the beat here. It's just a bit forgettable, but I'll need to give it more listens.
Just great. Not only did we get a deluxe version of Short N Sweet, of course one of the songs from it debuts the countdown. And yeah, just as I expected, Busy Woman is complete mediocracy. It's in a key I don't care for and some of the lyrics are a bit questionable, most notably "If you don't want me, I'll just deem you gay..." ...that just makes no sense whatsoever. Basically, she's trying to force another dude into a relationship with her in this song, and it's done in the most cringe way possible. I don't need this here.
And to end this on a bit of a high note, we have Call Me When You Break Up by Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Gracie Abrams. Marked improvement over Scared Of Loving You from a couple weeks ago. Benny Blanco's production is a lot better and both Selena Gomez and Gracie Abrams sound good here and sound good together. So great song.
Hitbound:
Dove Cameron- Too Much
Benson Boone- Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else (Debut)
Jisoo- Your Love
Lizzo- Love In Real Life (Debut)
Lisa/ Future- Fxck Up The World (Debut)
Alex Warren- Ordinary
Emei- Crazy Stupid Love (Debut)
Steve Aoki/ Trippie Redd/ Jessica Baio/ Kabu- Radio (Debut)
Ashley Cooke/ Joe Jonas- All I Forgot
Halsey- Safeword (Debut)
Role Model- Sally When The Wine Runs Out (Debut)*
Jennie/ Doechii- ExtraL
Dasha- Not At This Party (Debut)
Damiano David- Next Summer (Debut)
Justice/ Tame Impala- Neverender
Alessi Rose- IKYK
And yes, part of why this post is taking me some time to get out is because I have a shit ton of HB debuts to talk about. First is Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else by Benson Boone. I'm not completely sold on this as of yet, it has a good beat and this sounds more normal by the music critic standard, it's just not in a key I usually like. This could grow on me though.
It's been a couple years since we last heard from Lizzo, but now she's back with Love In Real Life. Again, pretty good, nothing too special, though. She sounds pretty good and it has an interesting beat, though I'll take some of the songs from Special over this.
All right. I should probably explain this next song. This is on Lisa's new album and is called Fxck Up The World, and features Future. However, there is a version without Future, and that is what we have here. This is honestly pretty solid. I like the Beatsaber feel this has and Lisa sounds pretty good here, although I can't say anything about Future's verse since it was edited out. All in all, solid song.
So now we're getting in to the two best debuts this week. First, remember Emei from her song Love Me Not about a year ago? Well, she's back this week with Crazy Stupid Love, and this is thankfully a lot better than that song. It has a much more fun beat and the song is in G Minor, a key I'm pretty much guaranteed to like songs in. So yeah, better second opinion on her, even though Love Me Not was solid.
Now for my favorite debut this week. It's been an insanely long time since we last heard Steve Aoki on Hits 1, his last Hits 1 appearance was Waste It On Me with BTS in late 2018, although I thought that they would for sure pick up on Older with Dixie and Jimmie Allen two years ago, simply because of one of the guest artists on that song, I'm sure you already know which one. Anyways, he's now here with Radio with Trippie Redd, Jessica Baio, and Kabu. Yeah, this is quite good. While Steve Aoki's production is not what I was expecting it to be, which is straight up house, it's still quite cool and Trippie Redd and Jessica Baio both sound quite good here (I'm guessing that Kabu is the name of Steve Aoki's Louis Vuitton Bag). Also, this reminds me a lot of Stay by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber in a good way. Great song.
I knew it would get somewhat questionable. Next up, Halsey is back with new music, this is called Safeword. Compared to past Halsey songs, this sounds like a cross between Nightmare and Forget Me Too with MGK. Although, I will say it sounds closer to the former, which was decent at best. And yeah, this is tolerable, it has an amazing beat and Halsey sounds pretty good, it's just moderately forgettable. But overall, decent.
So midway through last week, Three Six Five by Shinedown got switched out for this next song, Sally When The Wine Runs Out by Role Model. And this is pretty good. It has a bit of a country feel to it and Role Model sounds fine. So yeah, his music has been mostly good, and this is no exception.
Ok, so I still have to talk about Dasha one year later. She's back with Not At This Party, and... this is better than the majority of what I've previously heard from her, it has a solid beat and this is among her better vocal performances. So yeah, among her better songs, but still nothing I should revisit.
Lastly, we have solo single #3 from Damiano David, this is called Next Summer. And similar to what I said in my last blurb, this is my favorite song from him thus far. Yeah, it is a bit slow, but at least there is something going on in the production, plus, it is in a better key, Damiano David sounds really good, it has amazing melodies, and this has amazing lyrics. Yeah, deserves to be more of a hit than Born With A Broken Heart.
We lost High Fashion, Three Six Five (as I already mentioned), I've Seen Your Ex, Nighttime Thing, Love Looks Pretty On You, and Franklin House. I wish the first two had debuted because they were really good, I've Seen Ur Ex and Nighttime Thing were pretty forgettable, so I'm fine with those leaving. Not sure why Love Looks Pretty On You needed to re-enter if it was just going to leave the following week, and Franklin House sucked ass, so good riddance to that.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Am I Okay, Diet Pepsi, Last Night's Mascara, and Push 2 Start. I wish Am I Okay had lasted for a bit longer, while Diet Pepsi lasted for way too long. And I think the other two might re-enter at some point, we shall see.
Noooo why did Cry For Me drop to #25? This should be higher!
At least Timeless is now just shy of the top 15. Hopefully it makes it there soon.
Good News continues to drop, might be on its way out, unfortunately.
Love Somebody is now in the top 10, good to see.
And yet again, nothing happened in the top 5. We'll need some new Top 5 entrants soon, I guess.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys hopefully in a couple days.
