Recommendations For Hits 1: Morgan Wallen- Just In Case and MGK- Your Name Forever
Our first debut is Lizzo's latest, Still Bad. Like last week, more like Still Forgettable. It's pretty good, she sounds fine, there's nothing here that I'm completely wowed by. That's all.
Our other two debuts are quite good, to the point that I had a hard time deciding which of them to put in purple, I ultimately decided to give this one the purple treatment, The Giver by Chappell Roan, because this is easily one of my favorite songs right now. Yeah, this is quite good. Unlike other songs of hers that I've heard, this is a country song, and Chappell Roan can surprisingly do songs like this, It gives off the vibes of anything from Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, or any other female country singer from this era, plus Chappell Roan sounds pretty good here. I hope this becomes a huge hit.
Lastly, we have Anxiety by Doechii coming in at #21. This is also one of my favorite songs right now. I love how this samples Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and Kimbra in the same way that Sorry 4 The Wait by Lil Wayne sampled Rolling In The Deep by Adele and Blind by Alex Sampson sampled Youngblood by 5 Seconds Of Summer, and Doechii's vocals go quite well over the Somebody That I Used To Know beat. Glad this is becoming a huge hit.
Hitbound:
Emei- Crazy Stupid Love
Jonas Brothers- Love Me To Heaven (Debut)
Dove Cameron- Too Much
Sombr- Undressed (Debut)
Jon Bellion- Wash (Debut)
Imogen Heap- Headlock
Selena Gomez/ Benny Blanco- Bluest Flame (Debut)
Jennie- Like Jennie (Debut)
Alex Warren- Ordinary
Ravyn Lenae- Love Me Not (Debut)
Knox- 50/50
Ashley Cooke/ Joe Jonas- All I Forgot
Jack Harlow/ Doja Cat- Just Us (Debut)
Alessi Rose- IKYK
J Hope/ Miguel- Sweet Dreams
Almost Monday- Can't Slow Down
Interesting list of debuts to talk about this week, first from my easy favorite, Love Me To Heaven by the Jonas Brothers. And it's pretty easy to see why it's my favorite debut this week. It's another quite fun pop song in the key of Bb major with the lyrics spelling out a love song, and Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas both sound quite good here. Super happy I heard this.
This next song might be a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It's called Undressed by Sombr, and it seems like something I probably shouldn't like, and yet, I kinda do. It gives off major Hozier vibes and Sombr sounds quite good, I also find the lyrics to be a bit relatable for me. Glad they found this.
We have another new song from Jon Bellion up next, this is called Wash. I'm not fully on board with this. Jon Bellion sounds pretty good here but I find the beat a little bit weird and slow, so this is nowhere as good as it should be.
Yesterday, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco put out their new collab album, and from it, we have Bluest Flame. I have mixed opinions here. On one hand, it's in Bb major with Benny Blanco's production being EDM, but there are interesting vocal effects on Selena Gomez's voice that caused Goomy to say that this sounds like it was made by AI. Plus, it feels a bit repetitive at points. So overall, good song, but issues are there.
Up next, we have the less good random newcomer debuting this week, this is Love Me Not by Ravyn Lenae. This is just good. It has a decent beat and she sounds fine, it's just a fair bit forgettable. So yeah, just good.
Two weeks after Jennie dropped her album, we have this song from it, this is Like Jennie. I may kind of have to agree with Mark from Billboard Breakdown on this one here. This is just decent in my opinion. The beat is a bit strange and although Jennie sounds fine, it feels like she's trying to proclaim herself to be the greatest person in the world, and this just feels more like something that Lisa could pull off better. If you guys are wondering if I like any songs from Jennie's album, I do like Damn Right with Kali Uchis and Childish Gambino, hopefully that one makes its way on to here soon.
Lastly, we have a collab that I'm a bit surprised hasn't happened before, this is Just Us by Jack Harlow and Doja Cat. I think this one is pretty solid. Jack Harlow's flow is once again on point and Doja Cat's verse fits the song quite well, plus the lyrics about being alone with some girl makes this work for me.
We lost Neverender, Dirty, Your Love, and You're A Liar. Honestly, I'm only going to miss Neverender and Your Love, the other two were quite forgettable.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Love Somebody, Timeless, and Mr Predictable. Love Somebody's been here for a decent bit, so I'm fine with that leaving. Timeless had a little bit more success its second time around, but still not a lot. And Mr Predictable never really needed to be here in the first place.
Not At This party dropped four spots off the debut, not entirely sure how I feel about that since the song might be growing on me.
Revolving Door and Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else had slight jumps into the top 20. Ok then.
APT finally fell hard out of the top 5. As good of a song as that is, it was getting time for this to leave soon.
Sailor Song had a slight rebound to #13, I'm still okay with that.
Die With A Smile also fell out of the top 5. Yeah, we were in need of a shakeup to the top 5 or even the top 10.
Toxic Till The End is now at #6... yeah, I still like this less than I do APT and it's still not as huge as that one is on the hot 100. So hopefully this doesn't make the top 5.
Abracadabra did make it into the top 5, that's great to see.
Bed Chem is now at #2... Yeah, I don't think this needs to be here. I hope this gets blocked since we really don't need any more Short & Sweet songs to be #1, but if not, at least Busy Woman flopped harder than J Christ.
After only one week, Pink Pony Club re-took the #1 spot from That's So True, and I'd say that's a slight improvement.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
Well you're probably not going to be happy about this but I listened to some of this weeks countdown and Bed Chem somehow made it to number 1 and Busy Woman somehow reentered at number 19.
