My Favorite Song Last Year: Shaboozey- A Bar Song
My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: David Guetta/ Anne Marie/ Coi Leray- Baby Don't Hurt Me
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: People R Ugly- DoULoveMe
Our first debut is Maroon 5's first song on here since Beautiful Mistakes four years ago, this is Priceless with Lisa. It has a really good beat to it and Adam Levine sounds quite good here per usual, and Lisa's verse fits in quite well. Strange collab (although I will likely be talking about an even stranger collab next week), but it works.
Oh boy. Some random ass song from Charli XCX's 2020 album How I'm Feeling Now called Party 4 U has gone viral five years later, and it is now on the countdown. This isn't that bad... The beat is fine, though it feels a bit out of place as she made almost entirely EDM songs in Crash and Brat after this was released. Charli XCX sounds pretty good, too. My one main issue is how repetitive it gets towards the end, but other than that, decent enough song. I wish it was another Brat song instead, but it's all good.
Lastly, Sailor Song by Gigi Perez re-entered. It's a good thing I still like that song, otherwise we would likely be having a completely different conversation.
Hitbound:
Michael Clifford- Cool
Rosé- Messy (Debut)
BigXThaPlug/ Bailey Zimmerman- All The Way
Avril Lavigne/ Simple Plan- Young & Dumb (Debut)
Jon Bellion/ Pharrell- Horoscope (Debut)
Emei- Crazy Stupid Love
Maren Morris- Lemonade (Debut)
Jessie Murph- Blue Strips
Joe Jonas- Heart By Heart
D4vd- Feel It (Re-entry)
Ed Sheeran- Old Phone
Kesha/ T Pain- Yippee Ki Yay
The Paradox- Do Me Like That
Damiano David- Voices (Debut)
Dove Cameron- French Girls
Shaboozey/ Myles Smith- Blink Twice
Last week, the first single from the F1 soundtrack, Lose My Mind by Don Toliver and Doja Cat, was released but it didn't make it on to Hitbound. This week, we have the second single from that album, Messy by Rosé, on Hitbound. This is pretty good, though not great. The beat's fine, Rosé sounds pretty good here, this just feels a bit forgettable. I'll need to hear it more.
This next debut is a lot better, though. This is Young & Dumb by Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan, who make their first appearance on here since Your Love Is A Lie in 2008. Yes, Simple Plan was last on here 17 years ago. Anyways, this collab is just what I expected it to be. It's a pop punk banger where they reflect on life in their early 20s and how they still feel like that 20 years later. Topped off by Avril Lavigne and Pierre Bouvier both sounding quite good together. Yeah, I hope this makes it on to the countdown.
I have mixed opinions on this next song. This is a collab between Jon Bellion and Pharrell called Horoscope. I want to like this more since Jon Bellion sounds pretty good here and it has amazing melodies, I'm just not feeling Pharrell's production here, there is not a whole lot of a beat, and I'm wondering if Pharrell even produced this and was only credited because he sings the second verse... (checks credits) yup, it wasn't him. And really, the only time there's a beat is during Pharrell's verse. So I like this more than I probably should, I just wish it was better.
Next up, we have Lemonade by Maren Morris. This is good, though nowhere near as good as Internet Money, Don Toliver, Gunna, and Nav's song with that title from five years ago. She sounds pretty good and it has a good beat, it's just pretty forgettable. That's all.
Our final debut comes from Damiano David, this is called Voices. Not gonna lie, his songs are just getting better as they come out. This is my favorite song from him thus far. It reminds me a lot of Love Me Again by John Newman in a good way, and Damiano David sounds quite good here per usual. Hopefully, this is on the countdown soon.
We lost Threw Me Away, My First Heartbreak, If Karma Doesn't Get You, Going Going Gone, and Adidas. The first three I can definitely live without, and Knox had better songs on his debut album even though I liked it, but Adidas deserved to debut the countdown.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Wildflower, Nice To Meet You, and Pretty Ugly. Those first two were already starting to fade on me, and I assume Pretty Ugly will re-enter eventually.
Ok why is Nokia still holding to the bottom spot?
I Ain't Coming Back finally jumped into the top 20. Good to see.
Cry For Me finally reached a new peak.
I guess Messy is back in the top 10 for now.
When does Azizam make it into the top 5?
Perfect. Busy Woman is in the top 5 now. I swear to god, I will have some words to say if this is #1.
On a brighter note, Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else is also now in the top 5. I really hope this makes it to #1 before Busy Woman does.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
