Recommendations For Hits 1: Marshmello/ Hudson Westbrook- Better Man Than Me and Myles Smith- Stay
This first debut I talked about almost six months ago when it was on HB for a few weeks then dropped out, much to my dismay, but it has been in the abyss lately and it's now making its way on to the countdown, it's All The Way by BigXThaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman. I should point out that this was actually the lead single from a country rap album that BigXThaPlug recently put out that also had collaborations with Shaboozey, Ella Langley, and Jelly Roll, among others. So onto the song, I still quite like this one. It has a great beat to it, Bailey Zimmerman delivers an amazing hook, and BigXThaPlug slays on his verses. So yeah, amazing song, I'm glad it eventually made its way on to the countdown.
AJR recently put out an EP, and from it, we have The Big Goodbye. This is yet another good song from them. This is an upbeat song in Bb major that talks about the hardships of being away from home while on tour, and Jack Met once again sounds pretty good. Also, that sample from an auction is interesting. Glad I heard this.
Ok, they're way too late adding this. This is Mutt by Leon Thomas. And if you don't know, he had a career in Nickelodeon when he was younger, this included being the singing voice of Tyrone from The Backyardigans for a couple years, as well as his role as Andre from Victorious, and I think he even made a cameo in an ICarly episode from 2008. So in the present day, he is an R&B singer, and his song Mutt has been a bit of a thing for a decent bit and is just now making its way on the countdown. So how's the song? Quite good, actually. The beat here is pretty groovy for an R&B song like this and Leon Thomas sounds pretty good here. Glad they finally added this.
Hitbound:
Lewis Capaldi- Something In The Heavens
Doja Cat- Gorgeous (Debut)
Twenty One Pilots- City Walls
The Chainsmokers- Smooth
5 Seconds Of Summer- Not Ok (Debut)
Laufey- Lover Girl
Alessi Rose- First Original Thought (Debut)
Demi Lovato- Here All Night
Alexander Stewart/ Lauren Spencer-Smith- Friends Don't
Tate McRae- Tit For Tat (Debut)
Raye- Where Is My Husband
People R Ugly- Wake Up
Justin Bieber- Love Song
Miley Cyrus/ Lindsey Buckingham/ Mick Fleetwood- Secrets
Madison Beer- Yes Baby
The Favors- David's Brother
Doja Cat recently put out Vie, and from it, we have Gorgeous. This is pretty solid. Like Jealous, this has an 80s type beat, and this works rather well for her. The 80s type beat is pretty solid here and Doja Cat once again sounds pretty good here. Fun song.
It's been a minute since 5 Seconds Of Summer last appeared on here, they last had Lighter with Galantis and David Guetta last year, and their last countdown appearance was most likely Me Myself & I in 2022. And after some questionable solo songs from Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford, they are back as a group with Not Ok. Wow. This song is quite good. It gives off the vibes of a Twenty One Pilots song more than it gives off the vibes of a 5SOS song, but that's definitely a compliment, and Luke Hemmings sounds quite good here. Glad 5SOS are back.
Same Mouth by Alessi Rose left the countdown, so naturally, Hits 1's best move is to pick up on yet another song from her called First Original Thought. This is good enough. The beat is decent enough and Alessi Rose sounds pretty good here, there isn't really anything all that memorable about it. That's all.
This last song comes from Tate McRae, this is called Tit For Tat. Really weird title. As for the song, it's actually a bit of a cool. The trap beat actually goes quite well with her voice and it has amazing melodies. Interesting style for her to choose here.
We lost Running Home, She Got A Thing About Her, I'm Your First, and Heart Away. I'm only fine with Running Home leaving, the other three deserved more success.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Party 4 U, Same Mouth (as I previously mentioned), and Ordinary. I see no reason why Party 4 U needed to re-enter at all, and it was getting time for the other two to leave as well.
Noo why did Vodka Cranberry have to drop when it was making good progress upwards?
Can Nice To Meet You just leave for good already?
I still don't think it's time for On My Mind to start dropping yet.
Great to see The Dead Dance jumping huge.
Manchild is finally on its way out.
Back To Friends and Revolving Door both re-entered the top 10. More neutral opinion on both.
Welp, Tears has made its way to #2. As much as I would prefer this didn't hit #1, I actually am looking forward to Sabrina Carpenter's SNL hosting stint in a few weeks and I'm sure she will perform that there. But hopefully, No Time To Talk, Love Me Not or Golden can be #1 before Tears is.
I guess that does it for me this week, see you guys next week.
