After re-entering HB last week, Fear by NF is now on the countdown. I quite like this. If you guys are new here or weren't here in 2023, I liked Happy, and this new song actually sounds like that song, and that is obviously a compliment. It also has similar lyrical content to Happy, so that all makes it a good song. NF also sounds quite good here. Good to see him back.
Unfortunately, we are not done picking up on random non-singles from The Tortured Poets Department that I barely even remember being on the airplay chart this past week, as Elizabeth Taylor is now on here. Do I even need to explain? It's a bit too damn forgettable with a strange beat, and it feels too long for what it is. I hope this is the last TTPD song on here.
The good news is that we end our list of debuts on a high note, as Alex Warren replaces himself with Fever Dream. I really like this one. The beat is really catchy, honestly catchier than his usual songs, and he sounds quite good here per usual. Also, I like the lyrics, they are apparently about he felt when he first met his wife, and that makes it a bit relatable to me, as it's how I feel about one of my across the street neighbors right now. Glad I heard this.
Hitbound:
Blackpink- Go
Harry Styles- American Girls (Debut)
Charli XCX- Dying For You
Maeve- Touch And Go (Debut)
Bebe Rexha/ Faithless- New Religion (Debut)
Laufey- How I Get
Paul Russell- High Maintenance (Re-entry)
Raye- Nightingale Lane
Twenty One Pilots- Drag Path
Tiffany Stringer- Bullet
FlowerOvLove- Casual Lady
Holly Humberstone- To Love Somebody
Dominic Fike- Babydoll
Knox- Go For Broke
Mckayla Twiggs- What A Girl Wants
Bella Kay- ILoveItIlLoveItILoveIt
Just great. We recently got Harry Styles's new album and, of course, we have a new song from it called American Girls. And of course I don't care for this in the slightest. It feels rather on the mysterious side and he sounds not so normal when he is singing in the lower register. I knew this would be bad, and I was right.
Remember Maeve from We're Not Together last year? Well, she's back with Touch And Go. This is solid. It has a vibe that I don't mind at all, and she sounds a lot better here than she does in We're Not Together. So I find this to be an improvement.
Bebe Rexha is also back with new music, this is a collaboration with late 90s EDM band Faithless called New Religion. This is rather fun. The beat from Faithless is super catchy and Bebe Rexha sounds quite good here. One of her best in a minute.
Lastly, High Maintenance by Paul Russell re-entered. Good to see.
We lost I Like You Better Than Me and Risk It All. I Like You Better Than Me was just good, plus, New Religion is here now and it's better. Risk It All is in the abyss and I couldn't care what happened to it.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Bloodline, Tit For Tat, and Chanel. The first two had been here for a hot minute and it was getting time for them to go, and I wish Chanel could have lasted somewhat longer.
Great to see Save My Love and Damn I Love Miami jumping huge off their debuts.
Drive Safe seems to be making its way to the top 20, just outside the top 15.
Bittersweet seems to be making its way out.
Of course Aperture jumps into the top 10 the weekend that Harry Styles's new album drops. Though I should point out that I am looking forward to him doing double duty on SNL this coming week.
I Just Might held on to the #1 spot for the second week in a row. Hopefully, this is it for Taylor Swift being #1 for the time being. I should also mention that Ethan pointed out that this is Bruno Mars's first ever song as lead artist to spend multiple weeks at #1, as Grenade, The Lazy Song, and That's What I Like were #1 for only 1 week a piece, while collaborations while he featured on songs from Mark Ronson, Lady Gaga, and Rosé that spent multiple weeks at #1. I just thought that was an interesting statistic.
I guess that does it for me in this post, see you guys in the next one.
