My Favorite Song Two Years Ago: Eminem- Houdini
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Andrea Bocelli/ David Guetta/ Ejae/ Megan Thee Stallion- DNA
Our first debut is Niall Horan's latest, this is called Tastes So Good. This is honestly pretty cool. The production on here gives off pop punk vibes and in a good way, and Niall Horan sounds rather good over it. This might be my favorite on the album thus far.
And yeah, I easily could have done without our other debut this week. It's I Knew It I Knew You by Taylor Swift, and it's off the Toy Story 5 soundtrack. And for some god awful reason, it's #1 on the hot 100 at the time of me writing this. Granted, this isn't as much of a snoozefest as When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2, but it's still not good. The beat is only somewhat good, and of course Taylor Swift has absolutely zero chance of saving the song at all. God, please let Toy Story 5 have actually good songs and let this song flop hard.
Hitbound:
Charli XCX- SS26
Olivia Rodrigo- Stupid Song (Debut)
Alex Warren- Passenger
Slayyyter- Dance (Debut)
Le Sserafim/ Illit/ Katseye- Iconic By Mistake (Debut)
Stella Lefty- I Know I Know
The Kid Laroi/ Kehlani- Girls (Re-entry)
Role Model- High Hopes 3000
Tiffany Stringer- Supernova
Lizzo- Happy 2 Be
The Beaches- Edge Of The Earth
Don Toliver- E85 (Debut)
Alessi Rose- Skin
Akon- Ringtone (Debut)
Knox- Long Story Short
H33ra- Shook
And, of course, since Olivia Rodrigo's new album dropped this past weekend, we have a new song from it called Stupid Song, and this isn't as stupid as the title implies. It's actually rather solid. It has almost the same formula as Vampire from a few years ago, in which it starts out somewhat slow, but then it evolves after the first hook, and that's when it gets really good to the point where I might like it more than Drop Dead, and I honestly do. The song evolves really well and Olivia Rodrigo sounds good here per usual. I have no doubts that this will be huge, and I'm sort of ready for it.
Up next, Slayyyter makes her Hits 1 debut with Dance. Mikey Piff compared this to something Kesha would put out, and I can honestly see that. It also gives off Charli XCX vibes (the good kind, not fucking SS26). So yeah, this is pretty good. The production on this works really well and Slayyyter sounds pretty good. Good introduction to her.
Oh god... not three Kpop girl groups in one song... so yeah, we have Le Sserafim, Illit, and Katseye on a song called Iconic By Mistake. This actually isn't all that bad. Of the three groups on this, it gives off the vibes of a Katseye song the most. The beat is rather fun and all sixteen vocalists (five from Le Sserafim, five from Illit, six from Katseye) sound pretty good. I don't mind this at all.
So Mikey Piff is still obsessed with the show Off Campus, and if you remember Girls by The Kid Laroi from a couple years ago (I still do, mainly because after I talked about it on here, it was playing when I first met my old next door neighbors), Off Campus features a new remix with Kehlani. It is as good as the original, and Kehlani's contributions work on here, their new second verse might actually be better than The Kid Laroi's in the original. So overall, I'm surprised but happy to hear this.
Next up is something they're a bit late picking up on, this is E85 by Don Toliver, from his album Octane from earlier this year. Since that album came out, my favorite song from it has been Sweet Home, that's the one that samples All Summer Long by Kid Rock. And this one, E85, is also pretty good. The trap production is pretty fun and Don Toliver sounds pretty good over it. I'm glad the album eventually was recognized by Hits 1.
And to cap off our list of debuts, we have Akon making his first Hits 1 appearance since Beautiful Day a couple years ago, and then I talked about his song Hold The Umbrella with Gary LeVox and De La Ghetto during the top 5 of my best list last year. This new song is called Ringtone. This is really good. I like the Afropop style production and Akon sounds really good here per usual. I also like the lyrics, they are about being there for a significant other. Hopefully, this has some success.
We lost Little Things, Rock Music, Handle, and Girl Next Door. I'm fine with Little Things leaving since it wasn't that great. I liked Rock Music and Handle but not to the point where I'm complaining, and Girl Next Door should've debuted.
Blurbs:
Our exits were Material Lover and New Religion. I'm not sure why Sienna Spiro's only good song has to be the one that flops, and I thought for sure New Religion would do better on its second run, and for a while, I thought that would be the case.
Good to see Babydoll in the top 20 now.
And with Olivia Rodrigo's extreme takeover, The Cure of course jumped four spots.
I'm fine with Mr Know It All rebounding slightly.
Like Dracula last week, Choosin Texas reached a new peak of #6 on its 18th week. It will be interesting to see if this makes the top 5 at all.
I guess that does it for me in this post, see you guys in the next one.
