Hudson Stone- Overthinker
So with only one exit this week, we have one debut, the third of infinitely many songs that Spyder Harrison will never announce due to his retirement (as a reminder, the runs of Heartless by Diplo, Julia Michaels, and Morgan Wallen back in 2020 and Better Place by Nsync back in 2023 took place while Spyder was taking time off, and they both left when he was taking time off), this is Dance by Slayyyter. This is pretty good. The production on this works really well and gives off major Charli XCX and Kesha vibes and Slayyyter sounds pretty good. Good introduction to her.
Hitbound:
Charli XCX- Wink Wink
Teddy Swims- Break Up In Reverse (Debut)
Tyla- Is It Love
Alessi Rose- Dependent (Debut)
Stella Lefty- Good At Leaving
Don Toliver- E85
Knox- After The Afterparty (Debut)
Malcolm Todd- I Just Got Mad (Debut)
Marshmello/ Kelsea Ballerini- Another Drink
Sienna Spiro- Great Expectation
Role Model- Joy (Debut)
Akon- Ringtone
Gracie Abrams- Look At My Life
The Kid Laroi/ Kehlani- Girls
Ethan Burdick- Hold You
Alyssa Grace- Bloodstream
Our first debut is from Teddy Swims, this is called Break Up In Reverse. This is inspired by his recent real life breakup, with someone he has a kid with. Though I will admit this is a rather creative breakup anthem, as he states he wishes the two of them could break up in reverse, with every night getting better rather than getting worse, basically, he wants the events that caused his breakup to happen in the reverse order that they did happen so that they could still be together. My one complaint is that there could be a bit productionwise, but it's fine, the production here still works well enough, and Teddy Swims sounds pretty good per usual. I'll take this.
Oh great, more Alessi Rose. Today she brings us Dependent. This is more solid than I anticipated it would be. This has a fine enough beat to it and Alessi Rose sounds good, this just feels like it is somewhat forgettable. I do recall it talks about a breakup that's hard to get over. So better than select other Alessi Rose songs, but I'm still not wowed
If we're talking about Hits 1 plants that I've been wowed by multiple times, I get to talk about Knox's new song After The Afterparty now. And yes, this is quite good, a lot better than Charli XCX's song of the same title from the same title from a decade ago. It's another pop punk banger about him getting back home after a night while missing the girl he likes, either the two of them broke up or she's on vacation, or it's about someone he had a one night stand with. So yeah, definitive banger, and if I continue to hear Knox songs like this, I'll definitely be okay with Hits 1 continuing to pick up on his music.
Up next, Malcolm Todd brings his second song to Hits 1, this is called I Just Got Mad. I'm going to be completely honest, when I saw that title, I thought this was going to sample I Just Had Sex by The Lonely Island and Akon. It doesn't, and it's only good. The beat is similar to that of Earrings, but it's not in the right key for this and he doesn't sound as good as he does on Earrings.
We have one more debut, it's new music from Role Model called Joy. I like this one but not exactly as much as Raye's song of the same title from earlier this year. It has a solid beat to it and he once again sounds pretty good. I'm just not feeling this as much as I do some of his other songs. That's all.
We lost Stupid Song, Iconic By Mistake, Saturday Night, and Long Story Short. The first two are in the abyss, and I would have preferred to have seen the other two debut, though Long Story Short was replaced by a better Knox song.
Blurbs:
Our exit was Drive Safe. As much as I liked this, it was getting a bit old and it was time for it to go.
And of course House Tour jumps huge off the debut.
Great to see Repeat It jumping back to #17.
I'm not entirely sure what Midnight Sun is trying to do at this point.
And nothing in the top 5, except for Fever Dream replacing Homewrecker, the two songs switching spots.
I guess that does it for me in this post, see you guys in the next one.
